Accommodations for Sensitive Dogs

Some sensitive dogs need a few weeks to adjust to a new environment or new classmates. My goal is to do my best to help those dogs adjust by setting them up for success. This typically means the use of baby gates and short periods of exposure.
Some super friendly dogs who struggle with fixating on dogs due to "I want to play"-arousal also benefit from having their own area behind an x-pen.

In some cases, a dog is not fit to be in a class yet - and that is ok. We usually recommend folks do some private lessons at Nova Dogsport before they start a class if they are worried their dog needs extra help.

We want your dog to feel comfortable as much as possible so they can have fun too!

What are we up to in scent class at Nova Dogsport ?!
We set up fun searches for our scent work dogs that challenge them to search new objects in new configurations. This is a search inspired by the SDDA Aerial game.

There are spots in my Wednesday night Novice (6-7pm) and Advanced/Excellent (7:10-8:10pm) classes for the next 4 weeks.
Each drop in spot is $35

This is a continuation of my Intro to Scent Work class - this class is great for dogs who are already on odour but are still at a Novice level.

Our goal is confident, independent scent work dogs, who understand the game and how to play it. So far, this class has been a blast for all involved. I have a few spots open for novice dogs who want to join.

We focus a lot on handling skills and the handlers' ability to read their dogs behaviour when they are "in odour", and when they are not in odour.

We focus on learning to read our dogs and their changes of behaviour in odour. You will learn how to handle a scent work dog, and we will build their odour obedience and confidence.

We had a great time competing yesterday in the first CDSA trial here in Nova Scotia!
The trial was held at the Atlantic Canadian Aviation Museum, it was very cool to get to search in there.
Willow came away top dog for the day, I'm so proud of her. Thank you .and.beyond_canine.skill for hosting such an awesome trial, I can't wait for the next one!

We've been taking a scent work class online with Stacy Barnett through Fenzi Dog Sports Academy that really helped us tighten some things up for this trial, I can say 100% that Stacy's Search Elements course is why we won first place overall.
