SWIPER HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN ADOPTED!!

Don’t mind my anxiously waiting pose, I’ve been 👀 for a 🏠for a while now, but it seems I’m not a very popular color. Mama says I am hilarious, and super snuggly. I keep trying to chew on her hair and she is not a fan whatsoever. I am from the Dora litter, so it is quite suitable that my name is Swiper, and they do yell no swiping a lot when I try to steal everyone’s food. I am super sweet and affectionate if someone loves my beautiful red hair….he k even ginger tolerance we can work on it together! Pls bring treats though, my love language is definately acts of eating treats you bring to me as bribes

I am a boy, and I am a fawn and white bicolor. My brother already went to his new 🏡 in Nb and I am still searching. I thought I should give some clarification as I’ve had a few questions regarding our last post. We are NOT closing the business nor are we stopping breeding. We ARE however ending visits and or pickups at our home. We will no longer be able to entertain home visits and will require making alternate arrangements. We are always available to video chat or FaceTime, just no longer allowing the public into our family home.

As of today, we are now a 100% closed cattery. This weekend we experienced a break in to our family home. While there is no indication that this was a targeted attack directed at our cattery, as there have been other break ins in our area recently, it is my job to first and foremost take care of the welfare and safety of my family and our cats. We will not be allowing ANY visitors, including those selecting or picking up their kittens. Selections will be done via photographs or FaceTime, or if needed I will meet with the kittens. This is non negotiable, and if this does not work for you as an adopter or future adopted then you will need to find a new baby elsewhere.

We have loved the last decade being able to welcome our families into our home, but having this happen to us results in us making decisions regarding the safety of our family and our cats and kittens. We are saddened that the world has come to this.

Nuances in Sphynx kitten prices:

COLORS & PRICE: If breeder is charging more for certain colors in Sphynx or Devon Rex, IMO it’s predatory. It’s a free world and people can charge and pay what they want. However, a black kitten costs me the same to raise as a red and white kitten. A gold eyed kitten costs me the same to raise as a blue eyed kitten. Color is NOT what makes you love your cat. It’s NOT what gives it health. It is not what gives it its personality.

ALTERING: Is the kitten spayed or neutered prior to going home? It should be, but if not add 200-500 to your cost when you get it home.

SHOWING: Does breeder show their cats and try to improve the breed type? Or are all their cats pet quality without a care about type?
If not, their prices should be lower than those of us who do. Showing 3-4 times a year is not too much of an ask. You don’t need to be a campaigner but positively contributing to cat fancy is part of being responsible breeder.

INBREEDING/ LACK OF GENETIC DIVERSITY: Does breeder get new lines in? Outcross? If breeder is inbreeding nonstop, your kitten should be reduced as well. The breeder is not actually doing anything to improve the breed or spending the money they claim it costs to raise the cats. It is cheap and lazy way to be, and also dangerous.

It is a proven scientific fact that carefully increasing genetic diversity improves health and immunity. It is proven constant inbreeding contributes to cancer and other health issues.

Linebreeding is not all bad, but then the lines need something unrelated after. It’s a balance.

HEALTH TESTING: Does breeder do health testing? Most breeders are screening for HCM but it matters if they have intent to mitigate the issue. If it’s a marketing ploy to sell kittens, it doesn’t help much. Sphynx and Devon Rex should also be DNA disease profile tested.
If not, your kitten should not be above $1000.

DOUBLE & TRIPLE MUTATION BREEDING:
If you like these cats, that’s fine, it’s a free world. They are not for me. I believe in staying true to the standard and maintaining the classic Sphynx and doing my best to breed to standard. However, breeders should not be calling these variants “Sphynx” as they are not. It is unethical marketing practice. None of these are accepted as a true breed by any accredited cat association.

No one would call a labradoodle a Labrador, so stop doing it with bambinos and elf cats.
