BIRD FLU: Keep cats safe! Cats are very susceptible to H5N1, also known as bird or avian flu, but at this time the overall risk for exposure and infection is believed to be low. The virus has ravaged poultry farms, leading to the mass killing of over 150 million birds. Now, it's been detected in dairy cows, cats—even humans.

Signs of H5N1 infection in cats:
⛔ Respiratory problems like coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge, trouble breathing
⛔ Lethargy
⛔ Neurological disorders, such as disorientation or trouble walking
⛔ Sudden onset of severe disease or death without prior signs of illness or injury

Spring is in the Air—Keep Your Cats Safe! As the days get warmer, remember that bird flu, or H5N1, poses a serious risk to cats. Keep your cat safe by preventing contact with wild birds and other wildlife. If your cat enjoys fresh air, consider a catio or supervised outdoor time. Let’s welcome spring with safety in mind. The Atlantic Cat Hospital is a proud monthly sponsor of Spay Day House and we thank them for their support. Did you know that way back when we started and were unknown, the Atlantic Cat Hospital was the very first clinic to take a chance on Spay Day HRM. The very first low-income spays & neuters happened on April 20, 2011 at the Atlantic Cat Hospital. Kitties Bear, Simone, & Velvet were complimentary spay/neuters by Dr. Julia Gilkerson in her efforts to support our work and give us a great start to helping cats in HRM and humanely control the ever growing cat population. Thank you Dr Julia Gilkerson for believing in us and helping to keep the doors open at Spay Day House.

BOOTS HAPPY UPDATE: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=960981396147671 he’s going to live happily ever after ❤️🥳

UPDATE!! Boots has had an insane amount of interest from all over the world ❤️🥹 thank you so much! He has gone out on trial!

Boots just lost his person and only home he’s ever known. She’s sadly had to move into senior living and they won’t allow this polite gentleman to join. 💔 He is the sweeeetest, most loveable, best head bumper, cuddly boy! Boots is almost 10 years young, he’s neutered and he is MASSIVE. This photo doesn’t do it justice but he is a big chonky boi. Over 30 pounds - over our scales reading capability! He’s a dream cat and needs a new loving home ASAP. He was the only pet in the household so we are unsure how he is with others. If you’re interested in giving Boots a home please apply at the link below! It would mean a lot to him and his previous mom. 🩵

With all of the information out there about Avian Influenza (H5N1) it can be challenging to sort the factual from the speculation. For anyone wanting more, credible information on this disease, and others, please visit the following site and type H5N1, or whatever your topic of interest, into the search field. Bottom line - we still don't know all the answers. It may become more common and primarily seems to be ingestion as a route of transmission (eating contaminated/raw meat, raw milk, water contaminated with f***s from infected birds, etc). It is best to Avoid feeding any RAW diets, including freezedried and including High Pressure Pasturized diets to limit risk of exposure to numerous bacteria/viral contaminants. Do not drink or give your pet raw milk. Use common sense.

Wishing all our clients, patients, and furry friends a wonderful holiday season. Stay safe and cozy like our friend Maisie!

😺 Meowy Christmas! 🎄

The holiday season may be a joyful time for you and your family, but it’s essential to keep your cat's safety in mind. Many festive items can pose hazards to your cat. Ornamental items like shiny decorations and tinsel may attract curious cats and lead to digestive issues if swallowed, so keep them out of reach. ❤️💚Holiday Hours💚❤️

Dear clients, please be advised that we will be closed for the holidays from December 24th-January 2nd. The email will be monitored periodically during that time. We will resume regular correspondence (phone/email) on January 3rd, and will resume housecalls on January 4th. It's important for us to take time to rest and recoup so we can continue to serve you well in the new year.

If your pet is in urgent need and you cannot get into your regular clinic, there are several options available to help you and your pet over the holidays: MAEC (Metro Animal Emergency Clinic), Coastal Care, Martime Emergency, 4Paws and Penhorn Animal Hospital.

In veterinary medicine, it's not uncommon to hear "I just want to get them through one more holiday". We completely understand how difficult it is to let go and not wanting to associate the holidays with loss, but please keep their quality of life in mind. "Getting them through" is for us, not for them. Our pets see us through every high and every low, it's only fair we do the same for them.

Wishing you all a beautiful holiday season❤💚❤️💚

We love this!
