The best part about living on property is that we are always around to be able to check in on your furry family! No matter the time or the weather if a storm pops up we are there to settle and provide company or distractions to anyone who may be concerned about thunder/lightning.
Gotta make sure you dig from every angle!
This is why proper brushing techniques are so important!
Hair can be very tricky, in this video the hair initially looks like it is brushed out. When I part the hair, however, you can not see down to the skin. A further reveal shows the coat is actually very impacted and matted at the base of the hair, close to the skin. A matted coat such as this causes pain every time the dog moves as the skin is restrained by the matt and pulled by the dog's movement. Furthermore, a matted coat is like packed down insulation in a home and does not provide the protection of a properly maintained coat.
Unfortunately this can be a common occurrence. Even if you are frequently brushing your pup using the wrong technique, wrong brush or not brushing down to the base of the hair means they can still be very tangled. Unfortunately, once a dog is this matted, often, the only humane option is shaving the coat. This is something that we always try to avoid however it may be in the best interest of a badly matted dog as brushing out at this stage can cause too much pain. We are firm believers in humanity before vanity and putting the dog's welfare first.
When brushing it's very important to be parting the hair and carefully brushing to the skin to ensure the entire length of coat is being brushed out, not just the top layer.
