Did you know that July 1 and the days surrounding it are the busiest days of the year for animal shelters accepting lost pets? Why is this the case? Fireworks during celebrations by pet owners can be a little upsetting for the four-legged members of the family. Many dogs and cats, startled and frightened by the sounds of fireworks or the activity of backyard parties, flee and get lost.

Aside from the events, many families enjoy vacations over the summer. Pets who join their owners on vacation are in danger of being disoriented in a new environment. Those that are left behind may flee due to loneliness or distress. Unfortunately, less than 3% of lost pets who wind up in shelters find their way home, and only 17% of dogs find their way home.

You should microchip your dog cats & birds. It's a simple and mostly painless procedure. If your dog or cat is ever lost, the chip will greatly increase your chances of a happy reunion. These chips are amazing!
If your pet gets lost and is taken to a vet clinic or animal shelter, your pet will be scanned for a microchip to reveal his unique ID number. That number will be called into the pet recovery service, and you will be contacted using the contact information on file with your pet's microchip.
For further information and microchip appointment Please contact us today to book an appointment.

How and where are microchips placed?
Microchips are implanted just under the skin, usually right between the shoulder blades. This is done with a large-bore needle and doesn’t require anesthesia. Each microchip contains an identification number and the phone number of the registry for the particular brand of chip. A handheld scanner reads the radio frequency of the chip and displays this information. An animal shelter or vet clinic that finds your pet can contact the registry to get your name and phone number (or do an online search of all major microchip registries).
Many veterinarians and some animal shelters implant microchips for a small fee. But—and this is very important—just getting a microchip isn’t enough. You also need to register your pet’s microchip to link the chip number to your name and contact information

To protect their pets, many owners turn to microchips. Microchips are tiny transponders, about the size of a grain of rice, that can be implanted under your pet’s skin by most veterinarians and animal shelters; some shelters implant chips in all pets they place.

A microchip isn’t the same as a GPS device, and it can’t be used to track your pet’s whereabouts. It’s simply a unique identifier that is implanted so it can’t be lost.

Microchips provide an extra level of protection in case your pet loses their collar or tags. Studies show that pets with chips are much more likely to be returned to their owners than those who lack one.
