Honoring the dads who teach us the true meaning of unconditional love, whether it's for their children or furry family. Happy Father's Day!
This weeks is Hudson!
Hudson was in earlier this week for a routine check-up and vaccines. This time last year, Hudson suffered from a large bleeding ulcer which required emergency surgery to fix.
The morning of the incident all seemed normal. Later that day, he urgently needed to defecate, and his bowel movement contained blood. He became lethargic and owners quickly brought him in for evaluation. Bloodwork showed a low blood count. He collapsed in clinic and was taken to OVC. After several blood transfusions and surgery, Hudson was on his way to recovery.
He is now happy and healthy and we love to see him!
Don't hesitate to bring your pet in if they seem off. Their condition can change very quickly!.
We would like to congratulate our good friend Ally who is now officially a veterinarian! Ally started working as a student with us in 2022 and showed exceptional strength and promise. Even while back in school full time, she continued to come in and offer a helping hand. It has been a pleasure to help you learn and grow in this field.
Good luck with your internship, you are going to be an amazing doctor!
Shaved down and ready for the summer heat! ☀
Is your pet microchipped?
Research suggests that about 1 in 3 pets goes missing annually. That's a lot!
As hard as we try to be careful, pets do escape, and that's why having a microchip is so important!
What is it?
A microchip is a small device that is manually inserted under the skin layer between the shoulder blades of the pet. The device has a unique code associated with it that is registered with client and pet information.
If your pet gets lost and taken to a vet clinic or a shelter, they will scan for the microchip number. They would then be able to find the your contact information and reunite you with your pet!
Microchip insertion can be done at any vet visit but is best to do along with a spay/neuter (or any) surgery to reduce discomfort. It is not overly painful, the feeling would be similar to getting a vaccine.
If your pet is not microchipped call today! We would be happy schedule an appointment or answer any questions

Summer is just around the corner! Which means now is the time to remind you of some summer safety tips.
☀️Be sure to provide your pet extra water to keep them hydrated
☀️Beware of toxic chemicals such as bug sprays, citronella, sunscreens
☀️Always monitor your pet during activities in the water
☀️Protect the paws! Hot asphalt can cause pain and injury to your dogs paws. Booties, paw balms and walking on grass can prevent injury. Be mindful of the temperature, if it is too hot for your skin, it is too hot for theirs.
☀️Never leave your dog unattended in a car. The temperature inside of a car will surpass the outside temperature very quickly. Your dog will be at risk of heatstroke
☀️Keep your pet cool and do not over exercise in the heat to prevent heatstroke
☀️Stay indoors if it is too hot or during times of thunder/lightning or fireworks
Have a happy and safe summer!

Has your dog had their heartworm test yet? Are they on their flea and tick prevention? If not, now is the time!
It is important to have your pet on appropriate parasite protection, especially through the summer months. Heartworm is a disease that is carried and spread through mosquitos and ticks also carry a variety of diseases. Over the last few years, these diseases have become far more prevalent in Ontario and putting your pet on prevention is the most effective way of keeping them safe.
A heartworm test must be done prior to administering heartworm prevention to ensure that your dog has not been infected from the season prior.
**Cats do not require testing but should still be on preventives; especially for fleas and ticks**
Along with testing for heartworm, a 4DX test will screen for the tick-borne diseases as well.
This includes:
Erlichiosis, Anaplasmosis and Lyme disease

This weeks is Daisy!
She came to us due to difficulty urinating and having blood in the urine. An x-ray confirmed that Daisy had developed stones in her bladder which required surgery to remove.
Bladder stones are caused when the pH of the bladder is off. This can be caused by diet, infection or stress. If left untreated the stones could cause urethral obstruction
Symptoms of bladder stones include:
-Abdominal discomfort
-Difficulty or straining to urinate
-Dribbling urine
-Discoloured urine
-Bloody urine
-Lethargy
-Vomiting
If your pet has a history of developing crystals or stones in the bladder, the best prevention is a prescription urinary safe diet!

The warm weather is here which means more outdoor time with our dogs! Hiking is a great activity to do with our furry friends as it mentally stimulating and a great form of exercise but it should be done with caution
Jack was on a hike with his owner and stepped on a sharp object that cut the pad of his foot. He was brought in and we stitched him back up. Unfortunately the wound reopened and he had to go through the process of stitches and multiple bandage changes before it fully healed.
(Swipe to see the initial injury)
A few tips to protect your dogs paws while hiking include:
-Wearing boots
-Keeping the nails trimmed (to prevent painful breakage)
-Paw balm (won’t protect from deep cuts but will help prevent cracking and discomfort)
Back in March we posted about some kittens looking for new homes. They were successfully adopted out and are settling well in their new homes! .

This weeks is Ava! Another senior patient that we would like to highlight. At 20(!!!) years old, she comes in for an injection of Solencia which is used to alleviate arthritic pain.
We always love to see our young puppies and kittens but it is also very important to mention or senior friends as well. Gir is a longtime patient of ours who recently underwent a dental procedure at 16 years old. He did very well under anesthesia and made a full recovery. He is now far more comfortable and able to continue to thrive! Thank you to his owners for trusting us with their senior baby 🥰
For an added dose of cuteness, swipe to see a pic with his friend, Noodles!
We will be closed tomorrow (Friday March 28th) for Good Friday. Hoppy Easter!
This weeks is Winston! He was so sweet and cuddly during his appointment!
We would like to wish our friend Bianco a very happy 13th birthday!
Wishing you and your furry family a fun and safe St. Patrick's Day!
This is Bunker who was in for his last set of puppy vaccines. Such a friendly little guy!
We would like to highlight Tank this week as our ! Tank was an itchy but with a diet change, medication and regular bathing, Tank is looking and feeling great! Way to go!
Four kittens are currently with a foster and needing to be adopted! All four are 14 week old males.
If interested, please reach out to the Pantry Four Paws cat rescue to inquire!

A reminder that beginning tomorrow (March 6th) we will be extending hour hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays! We will be taking appointments until 7:00pm, and open for sales until 8:00pm!
The weather is beginning to get warmer which means more time outside with our furry friends. Ticks are out all year round (as long as the temperature is 4 degrees Celsius or higher) but they will be much more prevalent soon. Always check your pet after outdoor activity- especially in uncut grass or wooded areas.
Make sure you are coming in to get your pets Bravecto or preferred flea and tick prevention! This is important for both dogs AND cats.
It is also never a bad idea to run a 4DX test to check for heartworm and tick-borne diseases such a Lyme disease.
Call to schedule an appointment or to fill your prescription. (905) 521-9404
***Please note that we would have to have examined your pet in the last 12 months to prescribe***

Does anyone know what’s going on here? This little friend is having his anal glands expressed! Animals have two sacs on the left and right side of the anus. These sacs fill with fluid that have a very distinct but unique odour. These sacs are usually expressed on their own when the animal has a bowel movement and most pets will have no issues. Sometimes these glands can become impacted, or infected which will require a bit of assistance emptying and can sometimes even require medical treatment such as flushing and antibiotics. As you can see, the “fluid” in this dogs anal glands was quite solid in texture and the glands were very full! They would not have been able to empty on their own. He definitely felt much better after this! If you think your pet may have an anal gland issue (they are scooting their bum and/or you notice a foul fishy odour) give us a call! 905 521 9404

Happy Tuesday! Last week we delivered 7 (that’s ALOT!) French Bulldog puppies by emergency C-section! All puppies and the mother did extremely well! Did you know that pretty much all French bulldogs are born via C-section? This is due to their unique body shape. They have large heads and deep chests, and wide shoulders that don’t allow for the to easily fit through the birthing canal and their at risk of getting stuck! This is why it is so important to have a plan with a veterinarian in place of your Frenchie becomes pregnant. Always do your research! . . . . . . . #pet #veterinary #petsofinstagram #catsofinstagram #catsofinstagram #vetlife #petsafety #veterinarian #techlife #vet #petowners #veterinarymedicine #petstagram #petlovers #petoftheweek #dogs #petowner #training #puppies #doglover #surgery #spayandneuter #spay #neuter #safety #emergencymedicine #prevention

Time for lunch! This weeks #pet(s)oftheweek goes to Beans, Buttons, Tudball, and Pickles! Their sister Swiggins also deserves an honourable mention but she was not in the video as she was a little to groggy to join her brothers for lunch. These little rascals gathered round to enjoy a meal once recovered from their neuter surgeries! Certain types of mushrooms such as the wild ones growing along hiking trails or even in our own backyards can be very harmful to pets. Keep your pets away from wild mushrooms and remove any that you discover growing in your yard or along your usual walking route.
Do you know what there are? If you guessed EAR MITES, then you are correct! Ear mites are little parasites that live in the ear canals of both cats and dogs. (More commonly seen in cats) they are highly contagious and cause a lot of itching and discomfort! This is not a life threatening condition, but it does require treatment to clear up the infestation. Some indications that your pet may have ear mites include: *head shaking *scratching the ears *drooping of the ears *dark brown material in the ears (resembling coffee grounds) *inflammation The only way to know for sure is to have your veterinarian observe them under a microscope! . . . . . . . #vet #vetlife veterinarian #kitten #kittens_of_instagram #kittens_of_world #earmites
How excited are we all that the sun is shining and summer is coming?Unfortunately with beautiful warm weather come some yucky little pests that just love our pets. Tick season is upon us! Here is a quick demonstration on how to properly remove a tick if found on your pet. If you are uncomfortable doing this yourself, call your veterinarian to remove it for you; we are always happy to help! As well as being downright gross, ticks can carry a variety of diseases that can be transmitted to your pet making them very sick. It is important to have a tick removed right away if found but just as important to try to prevent the bites in the first place. Some ways to keep your pet safe from ticks this summer include: ☀️walking your dog on paved paths or areas with SHORT grass ☀️Inspecting your pets fur after all outdoor activities ☀️Preventative medication! Having your pet on a trusted flea and tick preventive medication is the best way to keep your furry friend safe from ticks and the diseases they may be carrying.
