Summer may be gone but ticks and fleas are still active and hungry.
Only trust tick and flea preventatives from your veterinarian. Buying online or from other sources introduces the potential of counterfeit products that don't do anything or worse. We are always happy to help you find the best preventative for your pet...call us at 905-689-2000.

October brings awareness of many things but today, October 9th, is Pet Obesity Awareness Day. Obesity causes many problems, not the least of which are diabetes, joint problems, heart disease, and inflammation. One extra pound has the same impact on your dog's or cat's health as ten excess pounds has on a human. If your pet is overweight, or, if you are unsure about whether your pet is at his ideal weight or not, go to https://www.royalcanin.co.uk/body-condition-score/.

For healthy ways to help your pet attain his or her healthy weight, please call us at 905-689-2000.

Pain affects your pet's health, behaviour, and welfare. Whether it is chronic or acute, there are effective treatments to treat it. Treatment of your pet's pain is multi-modal, meaning there are different medications, supplements, treatments and rehabilitation that need to be given or performed to alleviate it.

Does your pet display of these behaviours? If so, your pet may be experiencing some pain. Our pets are so good at hiding pain that when they start to show these behaviours, the condition has already progressed significantly. Bring your pet to the veterinarian to determine the source of the pain and discuss the various treatments available to alleviate your pet's pain.

Three numbers that have such a profound meaning since that horrible day in 2001. It didn't happen in Canada but it affected all of us. And it showed how humans and animals can work together to help others. We can't bring back those we lost but we can celebrate their memory and be grateful for all the people and dogs who did everything in their power to help. #911

We often hear "he's getting old so he's slower". But arthritis doesn't just affect older dogs and cats. While 90% of cats 10 years or older have arthritis in 1 or more joints, a whopping 61% of cats 3 years or older have signs of arthritis! Cats are experts at hiding pain so by the time they show clinical signs, it has already progressed significantly. If your dog or cat has had an injury to one of his joints, this increases the potential for arthritis to develop.

Follow us to find out the signs of pain in dogs and cats and what you can do to help your pet!

September is a busy month for pets! This month, we are celebrating our feline friends. Cats are cool because, while they have evolved to be companions to humans inside their homes, their bodies, instincts, and behaviours have not changed much in thousands of years. From hungry mousers surviving in the outdoors to expert snuggling, headbutting, meowing, cuddlers, cats have become such an endearing pet to many humans. They know how to wrap their humans around their paws!

Show us your precious cat(s) by posting a photo in the comments.

Different animals show pain in various ways but one common symptom is decreased or no appetite. If changes in your pet's appetite continues for more than a day, it's best to call your veterinarian. For cats and small animals (i.e. rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, etc.), it is especially crucial to get medical care if their appetite decreases or is not present. Cats are susceptible to hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver) which is very serious. Small animals need to eat to keep their digestive system working efficiently.

If your pet scratches or bites at their skin or paws, this may be a sign of an infection, food or environmental allergy, or injury. If your pet continues to scratch or bite at the area, this can cause inflammation and further infection. The best bet is to have your pet examined by your veterinarian who can work with you to determine a possible cause and treatment to keep your best friend itch-free and comfortable.
