Our Angie had the pleasure of seeing this soft and squishy boy named Sonny for his final kitten booster and preanesthetic blood profile this week. We were thrilled not only to give him a clean bill of health but also to enjoy all the snuggles. It was a great afternoon full of kitten love.

Cats' hearing is approximately four times more sensitive than humans' and they can detect higher frequencies, including ultrasound. However, they struggle with localizing sounds and can be startled by loud noises. To help keep your cat calm, maintain low noise levels, especially in new environments. You can also play soothing music if your cat seems agitated AND speak in a soft, calming voice. For more calming tips, visit https://bit.ly/3dPXKYx.

How often should you feed your cat?

The amount and frequency of meals depends on your cat's age, health and preference.

If you feed your cat too little or the wrong kind of food, he will lose weight and runs the risk of developing serious health issues (i.e. hepatic lipidosis, a potentially life-threatening condition characterized by excessive fat accumulation the liver).

Feed him too much, and he will likely become overweight.

You can help get your cat off on the right paw by establishing regular feeding routines.

Although the food you feed your cat should be complete and balanced, the simple answer to how often you should feed him is that there isn't a simple answer.

There’s a cold snap hitting us here in the UK 🥶 You may need to take some extra steps to help look after your cat during the chilly weather. Check our website for some more tips 👉 https://icatcare.org/advice/hazardous-weather/

🐈 If your cat usually has outdoor access, consider having a litter tray indoors because they may avoid venturing out into the cold.

💧If you usually keep a water bowl outside, check that it hasn’t frozen over. Avoid putting chemicals that are poisonous to cats, like Antifreeze, in ponds and water features as cats will often drink from these too.

🐾 Provide indoor enrichment, like puzzle feeders, and play with your cat for a few minutes each day.

🚗 Before starting your car, tap on the hood and check between the tyres to check that a cat isn’t hiding there for some warmth.

Keeping your cat active during the colder months can be tricky, but maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for their overall wellness.

For our cat patients, additional cardboard boxes never hurt – along with laser pointers, bird watch stations, and interactive toys.

Did you know? Chocolate contains theobromine which is toxic to dogs. This holiday season, keep sweet treats (especially dark chocolate) out of your curious pet's reach. This goes for our kitties as well.

Routine physical exams are great for checking your pet's heart, lungs, eyes, and ears, but what about their internal health?

Annual blood panels help us assess internal health including liver and kidney function, metabolic disease, and blood counts. Diagnostic tests provide valuable insight into changes in their health over time and allow us to identify illnesses early which can lead to faster treatment and often a better prognosis.

💉Schedule your pet's wellness exam with us so we can run blood panels and help keep your pet healthy as can be!
