Jacob Boyd’s birds are bred with an experimental approach to bird care and breeding. The aviaries are minimal in size, but provide a natural setting for the birds with maximum comfort. The aviaries are housed indoors to expose the birds to human presence and living styles. The birds are exposed to music on a daily basis, as well as the scents and sounds of cooking, cleaning, and other household do
mestic activities. The birds provide the backdrop to social events with large groups of friends, and become accustomed to human voices and conversation. The accumulation of these environmental factors give the birds a sense of independent space and territory within the aviaries, and a general calm in proceeding with their daily lives. In this space the birds are able to naturally develop unique personalities, and the interplay between ignoring the human world around them and curiously observing our human activities gives a unique setting for the bird admirer and enthusiast. The birds are not handled or given extensive aid in raising offspring, which stresses the quality of survival in the resulting stock, providing very healthy birds. These efforts create birds ideal for display and aesthetic appreciation, offering the appeal of nature in the home. Like all pigeons and doves, however, with handling and special care any of our birds can become personal pets, very affectionate and full of character.
