CASE SPOTLIGHT 📣:
In honour of Pet Birth Defect Day, we would love to share a story close to our hearts! Cthulhu (Lu-Lu) came to us at 3 days old, and it’s been a joy watching her grow! Below is her story submitted by her Human:
✨ Meet Cthulhu ✨
Cthulhu came to our clinic at just 1 day old after being surrendered by her breeder. She was born with Swimmer’s Syndrome—a rare condition where puppies lie flat on their chest with spread-out legs. On top of that, her little legs were also twisted.
From that moment on, our clinic became her family. One of our vet techs, Morgan, became her “mum,” and everyone pitched in—bottle feeding her at work, making tiny splints, and taking her to rehab clinic. There were many times we weren’t sure if she’d make it, or if her quality of life would be good enough to thrive.
But Cthulhu proved us all wrong. Now, at 2 years old, she’s strong, happy, and absolutely full of personality. While she does experience some pain (especially in her left leg), we help manage it with medication, laser therapy, and massage.
Cthulhu is a force, she is silly, protective, snack-obsessed, and fiercely loyal to her people. She can also be stubborn and reactive—but given her early struggles, hand-raising(an easy going breed can struggle with being hand-raised, never-mind a challenging breed like a Presa!), and genetics, it makes sense.
She’s overcome so much, and we’re beyond proud of the incredible dog she has become. 🩷

With summer here, it means more time outside to enjoy the beautiful weather! ☀️ However, when is it too hot to walk your dog? Extra precautions need to be taken during hot weather to keep your animals safe!
Keep your pet walking in the shade, or on grass to keep things cool. Consider walking in the early morning or evening when the sun isn’t at it’s peak, or opt in for booties to protect their paws! 🐾

FOLLOW BALOO’S JOURNEY! 🩺
Baloo was diagnosed with low grade IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) a couple years back, and was manageable on medication. On June 15, Baloo’s owners noticed he was unable to walk. They rushed over to our Stoney Creek location for emergency care where he was diagnosed with Grade 3 IVDD.
Baloo came to our location on the following Monday to work with Dr. Matea and had an acupuncture session. At the time, he had no feeling or reaction.
However, Baloo’s owners noticed a positive outcome soon after! He started to wag his tail again, and was beginning to regain some feeling in his lower half with small movement. Baloo has had a couple more acupuncture sessions with us since his first initial treatment, and continues to grow strong! He has also seen a neurologist at this time where everything seems to be progressing well.
His owners state, “We know we have a long road ahead but only having two sessions with such changes in just a couple of days is so positive!”
We are sending Baloo all our best! 💙💚
