Welcome to our unexpected new arrivals! These 4 mares are all off the track Standardbreds who had racing careers, then raised foals. One mare's foal was so recently weaned, she is still dripping milk.
The mares unfortunately found themselves at a livestock auction in Truro. Although some auction horses find caring homes, many are sent on to a very uncertain future (slaughter is one possible outcome). These four were intercepted, and we were able to offer them a soft landing due to the help of some generous donations, and a raffle held by Marr Saddlery . For all those who donated or purchased tickets to help these mares, THANK YOU!! If you would like to meet them, stop by and talk to Tamara at the tack shop and she will introduce you!!
Some are skinnier than others, they are all in need of some groceries and some tlc, but they are settling in. Don't they look fabulous, in their new halters, donated by Marr Saddlery?
Thanks to their freeze brands (and some help from a knowledgeable friend), we were able to identify the mares:
Pink: Fritzel Hanover, 16 years old (Hannah)
Turquoise: Katenamy, 15 years old (Kate)
Blue: Elm Grove Future, 16 years old (Marly)
Purple: All Chocolate, 15 years old (Cocoa)
