And we're back!

The Harbour Grace Seed Library & Exchange program is a partnership between the War Memorial Public Library and our local community garden. You don’t have to be a community garden member to take advantage of this program - all you need is a Newfoundland & Labrador Public Library Card!

And the best part? It’s free!

Sign up at our local library, get a loan of some seeds, return what you don't use, and donate seeds from your own collection! (And maybe check out a gardening resource or recent bestseller, too?) Once the library’s seed collection is exhausted for the season, it’s gone! However, you can save seeds you grow and return them to the library for next year’s crop.

We hope this outreach project will introduce our community to gardening, food sustainability and public literacy programs in new ways.

The 2021 Harbour Grace Seed Library will be opening on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. All visiting details are below:

Seed Library hours for Summer 2021:

Tuesdays & Wednesdays: 10:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

Thursdays & Saturdays: 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

(In the event these times don't work for everyone, we work within regular library hours to accommodate individual schedules.)

Only two users will be permitted in the library at one time. Use will be restricted to a designated area of the library.

Face masks are required to be worn before entering the library.

Hand sanitizing is required upon entering the library.

COVID-19 screening is required before entering the library

When inside, social distancing must be practiced at all times.

If you have had a chance to peruse the seed catalogue online and you know which seeds you want, you may call ahead: we will get them ready for you and you may pick them up in the library foyer.

All measures are in place so COVID-19 protocols are met.

Happy gardening!

We're happy to announce our 34 boxes at Moriarty Park have been reserved. Once we have the information sorted, we'll send notifications to gardeners. The box allotments - ie., where your box is on the plot plan (see below) - will be drawn at random. We'll maintain a wait list, depending on interest, in case any boxes become available.

Gardeners for this upcoming season will be invited to the private group "Harbour Grace Community Garden Members Group (2020)." Here, the idea is for members to chat, share tips, exchange plants, and address any concerns. At the end of the season, this group will be deleted and another started for 2021, etc. Again, *gardeners only*.

We'll use this page to share with the community the great things happenings at the garden - lots of pictures, dishes using ingredients grown at Moriarty Park, articles of interest, etc.

We're currently drafting rules that will govern access to the garden this summer. These protocols will comply with the expected rollout of 'phase 4' of the provincial government's "Living with COVID-19" document. For your safety and everyone else's, these protocols must be followed - no exceptions.

Unfortunately, the Harbour Grace Seed Library is on hold, due to the temporary closure of War Memorial Public Library. We're working on ways to gift gardeners some seeds, to get things started. Stay tuned.

Despite the current global situation, let's enjoy our new space and make 2020 our best season yet!

NOTICE TO COMMUNITY GARDENERS:

The Town is currently in the process of establishing a new site for the Community Garden at Moriarty Park (the old baseball field), as part of a long-term, phased revitalization project.

Community Gardeners should be aware that the raised beds will be moved to their new site starting Monday, October 28, 2019. All harvesting should be finished by this date.

The gardening season will start again in spring 2020!
