This is Alix and her handsome donkey Joel. I had the pleasure of meeting them today and trimming Joel. He's such a sweet boy and there's just something about donkey ears that makes my heart melt π

I just want to share some photos of my beautiful donkey client Buddy. He's been on a hell of a journey and recently had a glowing review from his vet saying he's a picture of health now. It's been just over 12 months since I first met him and we started work on rehabbing his hooves. They're not perfect yet, but he's walking, trotting and cantering soundly, and he's doing so very well.
He's gone from "don't you even think about going near my hooves or I'll kick your face off" where he required complete knock out sedation for his first two trims and subsequently requiring me to work with him for well over and hour each time to accomplish a trim, to being trimmed happily in 15 to 20 minutes.
He's such a sweet sweet boy and I count myself privileged to have been able to help him on his journey to recovery.
I'd like to make a special notation that I wouldn't have been able to help Buddy without the expert advice and guidance of Lana Comeriato and Steve Mathews. Thank you guys π

I've had some interest from people to have me come over to the main land, however, not yet enough to warrant a full day and not need to pass on travel costs. Is anyone between PEI and the Windsor area of NS looking to get their horses trimmed?
As previously mentioned, if someone can line up a full day of 10 (minimum) to 15 horses, I will do your first 4 trims for free.
Give me a call or drop me a message on FB.

I was privileged to be given the opportunity to help this gorgeous donkey Buddy feel better on his feet this week. There's still a long way to go to help him be sound and comfortable, but he's well on his way.
Thank you to his new owners for calling me, thank you to Steve Mathews for your expert long distance assistance, thank you Lana Comeriato for putting me in contact with Steve, and thank you to Dr Kim Ryan from Island Veterinary Services for all her help.

Our 'Seeking Reflexes' course will no longer be open for new registrations in 12 hours time and will not reopen registration for another 18 months. This course seeks to improve the skill of the rider and show how the rider affects the horse and how the horse affects the rider. Get yourself hours of video viewing over the holiday period and new ideas/techniques to try with your horse.

If there's one thing I will ALWAYS do, it is retain a "learning mind". An article I have just read about hoof trimming challenges the understanding I already had, but I will never stop investigating, experimenting and learning to better the horse world for the horse.

I've been working on getting this mare's hoof to a more correct and less upright angle. First photo in this series was taken in May, the second in September and the third was November 6th.

These hooves belong to a handsome pony gelding who came home from a lease with less than ideal hoof health. Photo on the left is April 21st. Photo on the right is November 6th. We're making progress!
