BOLTS URGENT SURGERY- UPDATE

Update: we have raised Over $760 for bolt through through our GoFundMe and a friend and Charter captain at Young’s Big Water Sportfishing raised $500 for us as well through raffling off a charter in the spring. Our friend Glen F H Worsley has also organized an auction to help cover the costs of bolts surgery and recovery. We could not be more grateful for everyone that has come together and donated to Bolt's health and betterment. We love each and every one of you like family and we cannot say how much we appreciate the donations and the kind words.

Yesterday I took bolt into the vet clinic for pre-anesthetic blood work. The vet was wonderful with him as was his assistant. However, Bolt would not stand still for the vet to find a vein. So I ended up applying a tourniquet to both front legs and doing the blood draws myself as per the vet's okay. It has been over 5 years since I've drawn blood from a canine patient and I got my pokes first try and Bolt was an absolute superstar. He laid there without restraint or anyone around him by himself while I patiently took his blood and he just looked the other way. He is an absolute superstar ❤️🙏

I am in tears writing this and never thought I would have to share or worry about this with our best friend 🙏
We are asking for help to cover the remaining costs of this emergency surgery for Bolt ❤️
Every single bit counts as we were certainly not prepared for this.

COSTS:
Pre anesthetic bloodwork and testing of body functions was $496 CAD
Surgery is estimated to be around $3000++

My mom has put together a fundraiser for bolt to help with the cost of his urgent surgery as well as his aftercare and rehabilitation.

For those of you that don't know, last year I took both in for a regular exam and the vet that we took him to unfortunately did a very vague exam. I asked her to take a look at the lump and she said it was just a lipoma without even feeling it. I asked her if we should have tests done to further understand what it is so we could catch it if it was anything serious and she said that would not be necessary. Due to this misdiagnosis we now have to have this surgery more urgently than ever.

Mast cell tumors in dogs are serious and bolts is located over his right side of his chest over top of his lungs and heart. The malignancy of these tumors is very serious and they spread fast to surrounding tissue so the surgery will be in depth and will remove all surrounding tissue as well to ensure that all of it has been removed.

We are reaching out to friends and family to ask for help in this matter. The surgery is estimated at quite a bit more than we are asking for paired with the aftercare and rehabilitation that bolt will need to heal properly.

Bolt is a huge part of our everyday lives. He is our fishing buddy and our best friend. He is the core of our family and we value him so much as a part of our daily lives. Bolt was adopted from the Hamilton Burlington SPCA when I worked there as a veterinary technician. He came in as a orphaned puppy in a litter of nine with a mom that was hit by car. I knew him from the time he was 4 days old and have been with him through every step of his life. He has had to have minor procedures as a puppy but nothing that I thought would lead to this. He has always been fed the best diets and the best supplements and we always ensure that he is put first before our needs. This is absolutely gutting and heart-wrenching but we are trying to stay positive for him and hoping for a very speedy recovery and only positive news from here on out.

Bolt has been there with me through everything in my life and he continues to be a very large part of ty and i's life and our family ❤️ he is a huge part of our daily lives and we want to do whatever we can to set him up for success to live many more years to come.

If there is any money left after all costs have been taken care of, it will be donated to the Hamilton Burlington SPCA where we adopted Bolt from when I worked as a veterinary technician there.
