I am absolutely thrilled to introduce Juno❗

Months ago Juno's family reached out and said they would be moving to the area and may need a dog walker. The coolest part about this was that Juno is a Dogo Argentino mix‼️

This connection with this family became extra special because my dog is a Dogo Argentino. Dogos are not a common breed in Canada, so much so that there may be only one within a town, or only one patient at a veterinary hospital, as was the case with my dog. So, not only does this family want me to walk their dog, but I also get to spend part of my day with another Dogo! 🙌

Now, to get back to miss Juno. She is absolutely stunning! 😍 She is also part American Bulldog, which shows in her stocky body and brown spots. As I found out today, her personality is all Dogo, hence the "in your face" photo. It is uncanny how many similarities Juno has with my Joplin - the prancing way they proudly walk, the "bursts" of exuberant energy, sense of adventure, the happy laughing. ❤

I am so excited about all of the adventure Juno and I will experience together!!! 🤗😁

Handsome Hank with snow on his nose from his walk. 👣🐾

Today was the best walk Hank and I have ever had! Hank is an anxious dog and can become very stressed when hearing loud noises while out on a walk. While I do my best to avoid known noise triggers, it's impossible to avoid all of them. ☹

While out today, we heard two typical noise triggers - a loud tractor and truck, and a loudly barking dog. Hank only became mildly and briefly stressed, and then he recovered! He continued on sniffing (which seems to be a stress-reducer for him) and continued walking with a loose leash! 👏👏👏

I am SO PROUD of you Hank‼ 🙌

I am so happy to introduce miss June Bug❗️

First off, June Bug is just the sweetest name for this beautiful girl! ❤ June Bug's family reached out as they have a newborn baby and need a little bit of help getting her out for her walks. 👶

I love doing what I can to help families out with their furry family members and I do my best to make it happen. I am looking forward to many more fun adventures with this lovely girl. 🙌

Mondays with The Littles, Part 2. Sweet little Judd. 💙 This boy is a rescue and has been thru a lot in his life. He is anxious with many people, including me still, as you can see by his paw lifted in worry.

He will approach me and let me pet him, but I don't think he will ever fully let go of his stress and trust me. That is ok.👌 We just have an understanding somewhere in the middle.👍

21 years ago when I got my first dog, a certain "dog whisperer" was very popular and many of us took this idea of certain displays of dog behaviour to mean that the dog was trying to dominate us by being the "alpha." This was known as "dominance theory."

Dominance theory was derived from a study on CAPTIVE wolves, and the behaviour that was observed and theorized, was then assumed to be true for ALL wolves; therefore, for all dogs, as well. This dominance/alpha theory was NOT TRUE for WILD wolves.

Today we know that dominance theory has been disproven and our dogs are not trying to be the boss of us. Today we have a better understanding of canine behaviour and what they are trying to communicate to us. Today we know better.

Don't believe the myth - dogs are not trying to be the alpha and dominate us. They really just want to live harmoniously with their humans.

Fear, pain, illness or resource guarding (often from having items taken away from them in an attempt to prove that mythical ‘alpha’ status) can result in aggressive displays. It is perhaps most often due to a misunderstanding, of not understanding the causes of canine behaviour, of not understanding canine body language, and of not understanding that our dogs really are not trying to be the bosses of us."

Happy Friyay! 🙌

I have been busy working on some things behind the scenes and my brain is tired. I am excited about sleeping in this weekend, taking a couple of long walks with my dog and cuddling up afterward. 🥰

What are the signs of frostbite on a dog?
⚠️ Ear tips are red and scaly
⚠️ Skin is shrivelled
⚠️ Skin is cold and remains cold to the touch
⚠️ Dog reacts to pain when the area is touched

What to do:
✅ Move the dog to a warm area.
✅ Examine the body for signs of frostbite.
✅ Gently cover the affected areas with a warm towel. Do NOT rub the area as this could cause skin damage.
✅ Warm the areas with luke-warm water. The skin may become red as it begins to warm up.
✅ If the skins becomes black call a Veterinarian immediately.
✅ Otherwise, contact your Vet for a follow-up.

Ripley has totally stolen my ❤. Not only does he greet me at the door and rolls over for belly rubs, but he also jumps up on the couch after our walk and crawls over for some scratchies and love. 🥰🥰
