Hank is doing a really good job of calmly walking down Main St. He is a really sensitive guy and sometimes the loud vehicle noises create some anxiety for him. He responds very well to a calm, quiet approach. 🥰

I am so proud of Pumpkin ❗
Pumpkin is an older puppy, so he is still learning how to walk politely on the leash. He also has significant reactivity to people and other dogs, which also impacts his ability to focus on learning leash manners. 🐾👣
On this day, we found an area were we could practice his leash manners. The dog that he typically reacts to on our route was far enough up the street so he was able to forget about it. 🐕
With a lot of "good boy" and tasty treat reinforcers Pumpkin was able to walk very well on a loose leash! 🙌
It was really nice to have almost a full 30 minutes of very little reactivity. Pumpkin seemed to be happy and enjoying the walk. 🤗 It can be very difficult for reactive dogs to find pure, lasting enjoyment on a walk when there are often triggers along the way.
I do my best to find calming areas to walk, but sometimes that can be difficult. We only had a short area of the road to walk on that was free from triggers, so we did many turn-arounds and re-walked the area again. Pumpkin was a great sport. 👌
Special thanks to the gentleman who very kindly asked to say hi to Pumpkin, but very kindly accepted it when I declined and said I was focusing on his training. 🙏 Moments of empathetic acceptance mean the world to me and are helpful to the dog I am working with. The dog's needs are the #1️⃣ priority.

Look at Oakley go! 🤗
Oakley and his family have been working hard to reduce his excitability and distraction on his walks, which were causing him to pull very, very hard on the leash. 👏
✅ Oakley's family have been walking him regularly for a good length of time. ✅ They have re-introduced using a Halti to aid in managing his strength (he had chewed thru his previous Halti within minutes on a walk with me due to very high excitement). ✅ They have stopped putting on his harness before I arrive for my walk with Oakley. We discovered by accident. His family had forgotten I was coming for a walk after the holiday Monday a couple of weeks ago, and had not put on his harness before I arrived. We realized this decreased his excitement level as he was not anticipating my walk with him!
With all of these adaptations Oakley is now more focused on walking calmly, which makes it much easier to walk him. He is doing fantastic ❗
⚠️ I also want to give a special shout-out to the 3 landscapers that Oakley and I passed on our walk today. Oakley has been doing so well with being less excited so it is very important to keep this momentum. I saw the landscapers working up ahead and I knew they had noticed us. I asked them if they could please remain calm as we passed by. Instead of taking it personally or getting offended (because people often do when you request something like this to advocate for the dog's needs and not wanting to set the dog up for failure), they smiled and respected the training process. I expressed my sincere appreciation. 💛

This was Oakley's walk last week❗
As you can see, we are walking along the sidewalk, which has been a huge struggle for Oakley. He gets so excited and distracted by the sights and smells along the sidewalk that it makes the walk very difficult to physically manage. 💪
On this day, not only did we walk along the sidewalk, we also walked along a busier road! Getting near the busy road was also a cause of much excitement and distraction for Oakley, again creating a difficult to manage walk.
This walk had made my whole day! 🙌👏

Saffi has let go of all her territorial behaviour inside her home and now allows me to put on her harness‼ No growling, no whale-eye, no side-eye, no barking.
