Due to continued vandalism in the park (half a dozen chairs broken, pooper scooper and dog bowls stolen), we have discussed added security in the park. Please note, the park is open from 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM every day. Hawkesbury security will be patrolling the park after closing hours to make sure people leave. We have also discussed locking the park at night. Thank you for your co-operation.

En raison de la poursuite du vandalisme dans le parc (une demi-douzaine de chaises cassées, un scooper à c**a et des bols pour chiens volés), nous avons discuté d'une sécurité accrue dans le parc. Veuillez noter que le parc est ouvert de 7h00 à 20h00 tous les jours. La sécurité de Hawkesbury patrouillera le parc après les heures de fermeture pour s'assurer que les gens partent. Concerning the osprey nest in the park, we have an updat from the vice-president of the Vankleek Hill Nature Society:

We have plans of a platform we built in Voyageur Park, so again I'm getting prices. The post is also being taken of as, we speak.

I know the city doesn't want to harm the ospreys and are open to ideas. The Ministry of Natural Resources, the Town of Hawkesbury and the Vankleek Hill and District Nature Society plan to work together to provide a safe location for the ospreys.

As for the nest, it will not be destroyed but rather transferred onto the new platform. This will be done after the ospreys have left late September.

Donations can be made at the following address and we provide a tax receipt for amounts over $20. For the receipt we require your name address and email address. A receipt will be sent to you by email.

Today the Vankleek Hill Nature Society members convened outside the dog park to observe the osprey nest in the ball park. The osprey couple have three chicks in the nest and the male brings fish to feed the chicks until they are able to fly. The town of Hawkesbury plans to remove the nest once the chicks have fledged in order to maintain the lights in the ball field.

The Nature Society is raising funds to construct a platform to move the ospreys this autumn. If you would like to contribute to this causse (tax deductible ), you can do so here:

Aujourd'hui, les membres de la Vankleek Hill Nature Society se sont réunis à l'extérieur du parc à chiens pour observer le nid de Balbuzard pêcheur dans le Terrain de baseball. Le couple de balbuzards a trois poussins dans le nid et le mâle apporte des poissons pour nourrir les poussins jusqu'à ce qu'ils soient capables de voler. La ville de Hawkesbury prévoit d'enlever le nid une fois que les poussins auront pris le vol afin de maintenir les lumières dans le Terrain de baseball.

La Nature Society collecte des fonds pour construire une plate-forme permettant de déplacer le nid cet automne. Si vous souhaitez contribuer à cette cause (déductible d'impôt), vous pouvez le faire ici :

Erik picked up this strand of ELEVEN balloons out of the hayfield this afternoon. They were losing helium and would have been essentially invisible in another few hours, and then stood a good chance of getting mowed, raked and baled in the dense grass to be potentially eaten by a cow, horse or goat this winter. This is often fatal to the animal, causing intestinal blockage or choking. With the long strings wound right into the bale, an animal may not even realize what it’s consuming until it’s too late.

Please, on behalf of not only livestock but wildlife, skip the balloons when you’re decorating for your party this summer! Releasing balloons, whether accidental or intentional, is littering, plain and simple—and it can truly have deadly consequences.

We installed the new bench in honour of the late Harold Wilkinson, who helped found the dog park. Ditto baptized it by being the first dog to p*e on it.

We are heartbroken to learn of the death of Harold Wilkinson yesterday. He was a longtime champion of the dog park and friend to dogs and owners alike he will be sadly missed.

The town of Hawkesbury is repairing the dog park gates today (May 28) and tomorrow (and possibly Thursday). The park is still open, but the outer gate is temporarily gone, so be careful opening the remaining gate.

La ville de Hawkesbury répare le clôture du parc à chiens aujourd'hui (28 mai) et demain (et peut-être jeudi). Le parc est toujours ouvert, mais la cloture extérieure est temporairement disparue, alors soyez prudent en ouvrant la porte restante.
