Check on your Ontario horse peeps...they're not ok 😅 If you aren't drowning in mud one week and breaking an ankle in hard ruts the next...you must not be from here lol
Hats off to barn staff and horse owners slugging away in this crazy season!
The constant freezing and thawing is very hard on our equine friends too. Their feet are not able to adjust very well to the changes in terrain and abscesses are more likely. Please keep stocked up on Animal Intex abscess pads and a good hoof hardener to help them through this time. Venice Turpentine is a good local option, can be applied daily to the sole. The best option is DuraSole (the version made in the States) can be ordered online or take a road trip for some!
Muddy horses are unavoidable at this point..but we truly appreciate those that go above and beyond bringing horses in early and pick their feet to allow them to dry off or provide towels to wipe off. The danger factor steadily increases when using sharp tools on horses that are slippery and/or not standing still. Our tools sure are grateful too. Fyi: hoofknives are $100+, rasps are $50-60 a pop and we go through them like candy, nippers are $400, etc etc etc
Lastly, services are to be paid promptly and in full.
(Special arrangements can be made if needed, when communicated and in a reasonable timeframe. We aren't heartless and we know it can be hard these days to make ends meet.)
That's all for now...let's get through the next few months 💪
Complaining about flies and drought is just around the corner! 🤣
