Quick tip Tuesday 😎
I'll use a video of Bear and I walking this morning. This is loose leash walking, no tension what's so ever. This is what you want your walk to look and feel like.
If you're walking your dog on an incredibly short leash or simply on a lead full of tension you're creating problems. That tension in turn travels from your arm through the leash to your dog. This makes your dog feel anxious and tense, which in turn make your walk incredibly uncomfortable..
When you begin to feel tension on the leash, you simply stop the walk. Eventually they'll learn to stay beside you, otherwise their walk will be constantly interrupted. When they are walking well beside you consistently with no tension you treat them for this. Keep a stash of their favourite treats in your pocket. Positive reinforcement is key.
I just want to quickly add that I'm definitely not a dog trainer, nor do I pretend to be one. My background is animal care and behaviour. I've gained all my knowledge and expertise working hands on in veterinary clinics as well as The London Humane Society for 15+ years prior to starting my journey with The Canine Stroller. I can most definitely give you suggestions when ever you need some guidance but other than that I would recommend contacting a legitimate and reputable trainer. I know what works for me and all the dogs I work with. Patience and Respect are key. Change doesn't happen overnight.
The little engine that could. I wouldn't be surprised if her name was Couscous ❤
Out and about with my new friend Bowser ❤
Bloopers are just natural for me. You'll learn to ignore them 😂
