Parkway Paw's Trainer Nancy Jean Bougie and her hunting dog Jeannie got the top award for hunting dogs. Canadian National Master title in PEI. This was a 5 day event with land, water and upland series. Jeannie did a great job, I am so proud of her. Training pays off and never stops. She is almost 8 years old and still loves the game.

Attention all clients and potential clients, Parkway Paws Trainer Nancy Jean Bougie will be heading out this summer to run her dog in Hunt Test and the Canadian Master National in Saskatchewan. Your Pup is smarter than you think!
Critical Training Period: there are several studies that have shown that the most critical training period for dogs is from 6-16 weeks. That's when pups are like little sponges that soak up whatever you teach them and any concepts they learn during that time will pretty well stay with them for life. You will be missing the best window of opportunity if you wait until your pup is six months old to put it into an obedience class. Get started as soon as you bring that little puppy home, you will build the foundation for a wonderful well behaved and trained dog.

Jeannie had her first Hydrotherapy Session at Top Dog Canine Conditioning & Rehabilitation with Olivia. Very nice person and really cares for your dog. Can't wait for the next session. Great winter activity to get your dog in shape and help with an injury.

At Home Dog Training
If it is too cold to go outside, then take the opportunity to do some training inside.
Fetch down the hall with food or toy
Sit - Stay - come
Puppy Push-ups, sit-down-sit-down try to get as many as you can in 20 sec.
Leave it, place a treat on the floor, leave it, if they go for it place hand or foot over it and wait for them to back away or look at you then reward.
Follow me, have the dog chase you around the house, never chase the dog.
These and many more games you can play with your dog in the house keeps your training going.

If you don't teach/train the dog something then they will be doing something you don't want.
Train more frequently with short sessions.
Keep them busy mentally and physically.

Impulse Control: Leave it, Wait, Leash Walking.
Dogs are relatively impulsive animals. Because this flies in the face of our cultural norms and can pose safety concerns, we need to actively teach dogs to cool their jets. For this reason, Parkway Paws Trainer has developed lessons for building your dog's impulse control musculature. Your dog will learn down-stay and sit-stay, leave it (to not touch food or junk he finds), wait at doorways, and walk without pulling on the leash.

Using Treats/Food for Motivation
Puppies do not do things to please you. They look at things from a very basic perspective: "What's in it for me"?. They will do things either to get a reward or to avoid punishment. Not using treats for training a puppy is like telling a carpenter not to use his power tools.
