Meet Sunny! Sunny is Dr. Kate’s 12 year old terrier/chihuahua cross who is still very young at heart! She goes for trail walks with her dog gang every week, spends some weekends at the family cottage and loves to nap with her cat brothers. Because of this active life she is at risk of being exposed to all types of parasites including fleas, ticks, heartworm and gastrointestinal worms. Some of these parasites can even jump from dogs to humans and other pets!
Sunny is on parasite prevention products from March to November every year. Ticks can be active at any temperature above 0 so we are recommending prevention start any time now.

There are a variety of types of parasite prevention available- please contact us at 705-436-9838 and we can help find what works for your pet!

Merry Christ- MUTTS and Happy HOWL-idays!

Trying to avoid a bah humbug emergency with your furry family member? Please keep the following common holiday hazards in mind!

Christmas trees/plants:

· chewing on lights/electrical cords can cause shock and burn injuries.

· Several plant leaves like poinsettias are even toxic! Pine needles can cause significant gastric upset.

Tinsel/Ribbon/Ornaments

· cats love to chew/swallow anything shiny/stringy- this causes grave illness that often requires emergency surgery

· Glass/salt dough ornaments can be dangerous if they break or are consumed

Presents/stockings:

· contents often have toxic ingredients like chocolate, artificial sugars and alcohol.

· Pets are also at risk of choking and obstruction

Holiday food:

· high fat/salt/sugary meals can cause abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea.

· Bones also put our pets at risk of choking and internal injury.

Alcohol/Drugs/THC:

· small doses can cause big reactions in pets! Keep them out of reach.
