πŸ‘‘ President πŸ‘‘

If you know Kim, you know how hard it is to sum her up, but I think those 3 words say a lot. Kim has been breeding poodles since 1995, and is a professional dog handler, groomer, and mentor to many. She wears so many hats, we are thrilled to be working together with a president who has a great sense of humor and is full of patience. Drop a πŸ‘‹ in the comments if you know our Kimmie!

MHKC

To our fellow dog fanciers, on behalf of the members of the Medicine Hat kennel club. Yes our show has been cancelled, as many of you know.
The rumors are circulating; from members stealing money, to losing our facility and everything in between. These are simply NOT TRUE! To those of you that took part in spreading them, shame on you! Our club is a small club, and we suffered a huge financial hit last year, and despite our fund raising efforts we did not raise enough money to offset the cost of running the show. No one sets out to fail! Our apologies go out to our show secretary, our judges, the exhibitors, and our supporters. Most of our sponsors for this year have generously donated to us to help fund a show for next year. We are forever grateful πŸ™. We have decided to regroup, and plan for next year. After surviving covid, and shows getting back into the swing of things, this is a reminder of why we need to support our clubs. Without clubs, we don’t get to show, and without shows it’s tough for our sport to survive. So please be kind to one and other, and if you don’t actually know the facts, don’t spread rumors! It’s damaging and in the end no one wins.
Sincerely,
Members of the MHKC

Interesting!

Interesting!

In Finland, barking competitions held each year crown a β€œKing Barker,” and a Finnish Spitz (Finkie to her friends) usually wins. These are prodigious barkers, and some Finkies have been recorded barking at 160 times per minute in competitions. Far from being an annoying aspect of a dog that’s gone unchecked, barking is an important part of the Finnish Spitz makeup. The Finnish Spitz is a natural bark pointer who follows a bird, and barks when it lands. If it moves, they follow it and bark again when it lands. Some claim the barking mesmerizes the bird and it stays in place. Others suggest that the barking simply distracts the bird so he doesn’t notice the approaching hunter. Either way, barking is so valued in the National Dog of Finland that any conformation champions must first prove they are adept at barking while hunting before they can become official champions.

At the link is a video we found on YouTube that offers 11 seconds of champion barking. We found that 4 seconds was enough to persuade us. Oh, and turn your volume down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVnmKJZkGG0&t=3s
