This is Bella! She is a Maremma/ Great Pyrenees.

I'm posting this in hopes that we can find the best situation for this lovely girl!

Sadly, her family has decided that they need to rehome her due to their situation changing. This situation will be impeding on the ability that her family has to provide the best care that Bella deserves. They love her very much and this was a hard decision to make.

I can attest that she is one sweet and loving dog. She loves her senior sister and her family very much. She goes on weekly group hikes with us and has shown great improvement in her engagement. However, she will still need an informed guardian who knows the needs of a LGD (livestock guardian dog). She has been on a farm before and showed great potential around livestock and other animals. It is preferred that potential homes have a large space or acreage that she can enjoy. However, she does live in a smaller home. This could work with consistent exercise and enrichment. She shows great potential to also be a family dog.

Please be advised that this breed instinctually is known to bark. That is their main purpose and they will use their instincts to assess a threat whether it be a bird or a leaf 😂🤷

If you are seriously interested, please send us a direct message and I will get you in contact with her family.

We hope everyone is staying nice and warm during this cold snap!

At Wandering Paws we take the safety of the dogs and our handlers very seriously. Although we wish we can get out on hikes these temperatures are simply not safe. We offer potty breaks in lieu to dogs who need a visit while their guardians are at work. This gives us the ability to monitor each dog individually while in our care. Some dogs may be able to go longer than others which is great but in a group setting it will impede the ability to notice signs of discomfort quickly. Our policies create a clear expectation and experience for all of our clients. Walking dogs in extreme weather also increases the liability of our business when there is a heightened risk of frost bite or heat stroke (during the summer).

Thankfully these types of days are only expected a few times a year and we are happy to get out with the dogs in less than desired weather otherwise.

We did cancel hikes today and hikes are also cancelled tomorrow. Those who needed potty breaks are scheduled.

We look forward to getting back out there next week!

Some of you may notice we are not posting photos as much! We are moving into posting Reels and occasional photos. All of our clients receive all their photos in the Time to pet app. We still will occasionally post photos that we really love and want to share.

Alyssa's early morning crew.
Unfortunately, these are the only photos out of all the photos and videos we usually get due to being swarmed by wasps this morning. We highly recommend you avoid cinnamon ridge at this time. Sending healing vibes to Jill and Ranger who got stung quite a few times 😞

It can be extremely easy for us to think "why are you scared of that?" when our dogs show fear for something that to us has no reason to be scary.

But the fact remains that it isn't up to us to decide what they perceive as scary.

Just because we may enjoy warm water on our skin or the the feel of warm air being blow in our hair does not mean that when our dogs show fear during those times that their fear response isn't real.

When our minds perceive something as scary, the result is a physical reaction. flight , fight, or freeze are the typical reactions we see from our dogs.

The more we try to help them through what it is that they perceive as scary instead of just ignoring it because it isn't scary to us, the faster our dogs can potentially learn that it doesn't need to be as scary as they thought.

During that fear response isn't the time for training, it is the time for comfort and support.

Be kind, just because it isn't scary to you, doesn't mean it isn't scary to them.
