Our rats are health tested negative against all zoonotics, including RBF. Health/temperament guarantee. 🇨🇦 🐀🐾 Thank you for visiting my page! 💓🐀Inspirit means to encourage and enliven or fill with spirit, and it is my belief that rats do just this. I have been involved with animals for over 30 years and previously bred German Shepherds, also very focused on ethics and genetics, and worked with br

eeders internationally. In a past career I also worked as a dog trainer and did a lot of rescue work as well. Because of life changes and family commitments I had to step away from that 15+ years ago. Over the years I was introduced to rats and their intelligence and social/empathetic nature and value as therapy animals quickly won me over (once I got past the tails!!). I work as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse and I am a strong advocate for mental health and do feel that animals who show empathy and high emotional intelligence are valuable to help people of all ages through struggles. With the rise of everyday expenses for people, I feel that rats are a great family pet with dog-like traits at a much lower cost and lower maintenance. Inspirit Rattery was formed in 2022. My focus is on small-scale breeding as a hobby, breeding for health and temperament. Working with other ethical and well-established breeders - tracking genetics to work on goals, and being committed to learning. I am dedicated to promoting rats as wonderful pocket pet companions and helping to reduce the stigma surrounding them. Our rats are tested annually for zoonotic diseases to ensure no health risk to the public. We also occasionally offer our retired adults to approved pet homes at no cost. Our rats receive extensive time outside the cage each day and handling by our kids/family right from day one. This early handling and exposure to new sounds/situations is valuable in contributing to optimal development and increased confidence when they go to their new homes. Our rattery offers a 12 month health and temperament warranty with replacement or refund, and lifetime breeder support. We are located in Kamloops, however transport may be available elsewhere for minimal fee, and we have references from families throughout BC! Thank you for visiting and please watch for updates as this page grows. Please message me with any questions.

Littlest beans are 4 days old today! 🥰🐀 their baby diary has begun.. at this age with their eyes and ears still closed, their little world revolves around eating and sleeping. Because their coats haven’t come in yet, their stomach is visible and a white band or “milk band” shows after they have fed. This is important to monitor if they are eating and digesting properly 🙂 their coats will start coming in more in the next week (can already see changes in pigment and skin surface). They are susceptible to temperature changes at this time without having fur, so their mom keeps them warm in the nest. 💞 as a breeder, I take the babies out daily for a health check and quick handling. So far so good!

I wasn’t sure how or even if to be open about this.. my first “whoops” litter as a breeder 🤦🏻‍♀️ thankfully it has worked out, mom and babies are healthy.. so I am okay talking about it and also keeping with transparency and the challenges breeders face. One of the females in Aja’s litter “Feta” wound up out of the female cage and caught her with Rocky at around 4.5 weeks old. Often the females don’t even mature enough to start their heat cycles until 5 weeks.. and hoped she was a late bloomer… but that wasn’t the case. She showed signs of being bred and I monitored her. Thankfully she is a larger size dwarf and matured early as she is the same size as her mom already, which is ideal for breeding , and extremely outgoing (clearly readily making new friends 😳!) *edited to add in that ideally breeders wait until at least 3-4 months of age for breeding females and sometimes later for males, to allow for more maturity. I’m glad it all worked out though and she had 6 babies on November 1st… an easy delivery of 3 males and 3 females and all good size. She is being a great mom and no lactation issues. This is Rocky’s first litter and interested to see what the babies will be like. Expecting some very social butterflies 😎Stay posted!

Finally working on my goal of helping to educate others about rat care and answering some common questions for those new to rats.
