Love this break down on behavior. I don't like dog parks because most people can not read dog body language and energy.
In this video it was very clear to me what was going on without the break down, but I've had YEARS of being in big packs of dogs like this.
Could you pick out the behaviours?
This is in a controlled environment. You can tell right off the hop in the way people were moving. They were instructed to move a certain way. (Keep feet moving, no eye contact, no touch)
Fenced in Dog Parks are not controlled environments and again, most people, have no idea what the dogs are communicating to each other. I have seen countless mishaps, fights, and injuries when I walk or drive by one.
The Essential Guide to Proper Puppy Socialization: Why It Matters and How to Get Started
Welcoming a new puppy into your home is an exciting and transformative experience. Along with the joy of puppy cuddles and playful antics comes a crucial responsibility: ensuring your furry friend is well-socialized. Proper socialization is the foundation of a well-adjusted, happy adult dog and can make all the difference in your puppy’s development.
Why Socialization Matters
1. Socialization is more than just introducing your puppy to other dogs and people. It’s about exposing them to a variety of experiences, environments, and stimuli in a positive and controlled manner. Here’s why this is so important:
2.Prevents Behavioral Issues: Puppies who are well-socialized are less likely to develop fear-based behaviors or aggression. By experiencing different sights, sounds, and situations early on, they learn to adapt and respond calmly, reducing the chances of phobias and anxieties.
3. Builds Confidence: A well-socialized puppy grows into a confident adult dog. Exposure to various situations helps them understand that the world is a safe and enjoyable place. Confident dogs are more relaxed in new situations and are less likely to be overwhelmed.
4. Enhances Learning: Socialized puppies are more receptive to training and learning. When they are accustomed to different environments and people, they are more focused and less distracted, which makes training sessions more effective.
5. Strengthens the Human-Animal Bond: Socialization helps build a strong bond between you and your puppy. By participating in positive experiences together, you establish trust and communication, making training and daily interactions smoother and more enjoyable.
How to Socialize Your Puppy Effectively
Start Early: The critical window for socialization is between 3 and 14 weeks of age but can range to 12 months. During this time, puppies are most receptive to new experiences. It’s essential to introduce them to a variety of people, environments, and other animals in a positive way.
Use Positive Reinforcement: Reward your puppy with treats, praise, and affection when they encounter new experiences calmly. This helps them associate new situations with positive outcomes, encouraging them to approach new experiences with curiosity rather than fear.
Gradual Exposure: Introduce your puppy to new experiences gradually and at their own pace. Overwhelming them with too much too soon can lead to fear or anxiety. Start with less challenging experiences and slowly increase the complexity as they become more comfortable.
Enroll in a Puppy Class: A structured puppy class is an excellent way to provide socialization opportunities in a controlled environment. At My Balanced Dog, we offer specialized classes designed to help your puppy experience a range of stimuli and interactions in a positive and safe setting.

Nice Leash Walking! 🐕🦺
Leash Manners are the #1 request I get for training! People want their dogs to be able to walk by other dogs and people on their walks without reactions, pulling on leashes, barking etc. I love helping people and their dogs enjoy their walks instead of fighting ever step of the way! 🐩
We have finished our Spring group classes and break for summer. However, we are still doing our Private Training Sessions. These sessions give you one-on-one sessions with a trainer. Sessions happen at your house or a nearby park. 🏘

Oh Henry! Henry is in Private Lessons learning some leash manners. Learning to control your body when dogs or people are around is a very good skill to have. Today Henry did amazing!
Murphy is here visiting from Peace River and doing some one on one sessions while here. He is learning to focus is body and not let it go all squirrelly when people and dogs walk by! We have caught him mid-rock drop 🤣😅
We have been so busy at My Balanced Dog with Private Training Sessions! Our Next GROUP Obedience class is starting up in the next couple weeks too!
This is Miss Beans - super sweet and also super smart! She is learning all things Puppy!
It was so fun getting to hike yesterday with the old pack! Thanks Wilderness Pack Hikes Kamloops for letting us tag along!
These boys!
Jethro (black) takes his Shepherd guard duties a little too serious and is learning by leaps and bounds, how to great people at home and on leash a little less exuberantly and way more polite.
Leroy (brown) is supporting his younger pack member by being an example, a volunteer in training. Sometimes it's way easier to help owners learn a method using the calmer dog in the house.
It's all about grace and celebrating the small steps while learning. These clients have blown past my expectations and are on their way to an enjoyable walk in a busy neighborhood!
👏👏👏
Ralphie the wonderful 11 week old Springer! Ralphie is doing Private Puppy Sessions with us! Today we worked on foundation and he was pooped out after class! 🐾❤️ Such a smart boy!
Trigger warning
My Soul Dog. My best doggy girl. My business partner. My May. She walked over the Rainbow Bridge on Tuesday March 19. My heart has the biggest hole.
Her life started out real crappy. The SPCA contacted me 11 years ago in hopes I could help her. We worked so hard with her fear of people and we bonded so hard I couldn't let her go and adopted her into our family.
We gave her the best we could and she gave us and so many people in Kamloops the best she had. Over the years she worked with me and so many clients and their dogs. She was the sweetest soul and I'm so sorry cancer took her. She deserved better. I love you Maya, you changed my world forever. My heart is broken. 💔
Thank you for your service, be free and run my girl. Say hi to Hunter, Blue and Rosie for me. 💗

Is your dog a Door Dasher? Yikes! It's not safe! Whether its dashing from an open front door, a open car door or a crate door. Door Dashing creates excitement and can deliver some undesirable behaviors, not to mention it's dangerous. Dashing out a front door could result in being hurt or hurting another animal or person because of the excited state of energy your dog has. 🦌 Your dog has no concept of highway danger and could door dash into traffic when you pull over. 🚗 Your guests don't appreciate the high energy dog that just catapult from the crate. 🫣 This week is all about Boundaries! 😎 Make sure to follow our page so you don't miss out! ➡️ #mybalanceddog #dogsofinstagram #puppytraining #obediencetraining #dogbehavior #puppy #dogtraining #balanceddogtraining #dogtrainer #cratetraining #travellingdog
Unpopular opinion! But I totally know you can do it! 😎 Dog training is all about rinse and repeat! Lots of consistency and patience is required while learning new skills. 🐕 You biggest and best tool is having your foundation training SOLID. It's the first thing we teach in all our programs. 🐾 If you and your dog don't find a common language you will always be fighting against each other, and training takes a lot longer....which means frustration, confusion and giving up. 🐕 You number one goal should be having a solid foundation! 🐾 Like this video and follow our page for training tricks and tips! #dogsofinstagram #dogtraining #balanceddogtraining #puppy #puppytraining #obediencetraining #mybalanceddog #dogtrainer #dogbehavior
