From time to time people tell me, “Lighten up, it’s just a dog,” or, “That’s a lot of money for just a dog.” They don’t understand the distance traveled, time spent, or costs involved for “Just a dog.” Some of my proudest moments have come about with “Just a dog.” Many hours have passed with my only company being “Just a dog” provided comfort and purpose to overcome the day. If you, too, think its

“Just a dog,” you will probably understand phrases like “Just a friend,” “Just a sunrise”, or “Just a promise”. “Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. “Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a better person. Because of “Just a dog” I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. For me and folks like me, it’s not “Just a dog.” It’s an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. “Just a dog” brings out what’s good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day. I hope that SOMEDAY people can understand it’s not “Just a dog.” It’s the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “Just a man or woman.”

So the next time you hear the phrase “Just a dog”, smile, because they “Just Don't Understand”.

Litter of pups available in Alberta. These pups belong to a friend of mine. His dogs came from my kennel and bred to one of my Someday stud dogs here in BC. These pups are ready to go in 10 days and if interested by enough clients, he will drive to BC to deliver pups to Kamloops out of my facility. All health guarantees will be in writing. I have purchased 2 dogs in the past from this breeder he is very honest and trust worthy. You can text Yogi at 1 780 385-0626 for more information. Please contact him directly not me as this is a complimentary post they do not belong to me. Thanks

I’m back at it. Finn is only 5 months old he is doing really well walking on leash now giving it a try off leash. He’s getting there. He is here for a couple weeks with us and will likely need a refresher at 10 months or so.

The end of an era

I thought I would write a story about myself and how these Douglas Lake hunts began.

Back in the day I was doing a lot of business with USA clients, the exchange rate was really good. I was traveling to many Sportman shows with my dogs to do gun dog demonstrations in the Seattle area and running trials down there. I sold many started dogs and pups during that time which led to them also coming back for training.

I found a guide in Cabri Sk where they hosted duck and goose hunting. I picked up pheasants in Brooks Alberta from the hatchery and with permits was able to release them in Cabri on the guides property. Ducks and geese in the early mornings and hunt pheasant in the afternoons. It was a long trek so started looking for a new location closer to home.

My husband Barrie Cline introduced me to Joe Gardner manager of Douglas Lake ranch at the time. I was offered the perfect spot and opportunity to host these hunts there. This year marks my 19th and last year on this stunning place. Let me add this is not by choice.

When I lived in Langley BC I got involved with a group of people who were running hunting trials. There was a piece of property 10 minutes away from me that belonged to Bob and Twigg White. Twigg was sister to Chunky Woodward who was once owner of Douglas Lake Ranch until his passing.

I got to meet Mrs. White once before her passing but I ended up a good friend to her husband Bob White through a mutual dog trainer my the name of Bob Macina who was from Oregon. The property the Whites owned was 50 acres of spectacular dog training grounds, Langley, Surrey boarder. Many of us who competed in Field Trials as the Whites did, got permission to use these grounds for training and running our club trials on.

Years later I moved up North where I live today.

Not only did I get the opportunity to host my hunts on the Douglas Lake Ranch ( now owned by Stan Kroenke from the US), but I was given Bob and Twigg Whites summer cabin that was renovated the year before I began there. Thanks to Joe and his wife Sam Gardner the cabin was beautifully decorated in a country theme and became more of a home to me over the years while there in the fall season.

The names of Bob and Twiggs dogs still hang by the thread on the dog runs to this day. I always think to myself how pleased I think the Whites would have been knowing their place was being used for clients who enjoy watching their dogs at work in the fields at Chaperone where birds are released.

How did life take me from Langley training on the Whites property to their cabin for 19 years of hosting these hunts?

I am posting the photos of all the clients that have joined Jim and I this year and many that have continued to come year after year.

A special thank you to”

Jim Romano my partner, who is a big part of making this operation go smoothly. The organizer and helpful cook.

Rebecca Woodman from Ashcroft who joined us last year and again this fall. Dog handler with her GSPs, bird cleaner, field representative and cowgirl to help push cows out of the fields.

Mike Boehm from Kamloops also joined us as dog handler, field representative, first aid, and cowboy to help push cows.

Dan MacVicar from Merritt helped out a few times as field representative and first aid.

Al Frank from Chilliwack, BC Pheasant company who supplies the stunning hens and roosters. He drives back and forth to and from with trailer loads of birds to supply us with up to approx. 3,000 birds in a 6 week time frame.

Without all these people non of this would be possible. So I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. To all my clients who have also become like family to us and big thank you for all your support as well.

In closing this chapter I would just like to add that we believe we have found a new location to continue these events in BC, starting fall of 2025.
