Surgery can be an overwhelming experience for our beloved pets, triggering stress and discomfort. At our clinic, we understand the importance of ensuring your pet’s visit is as calm as possible. That’s why we’re introducing our comfort packs that utilize medications like Trazodone, Gabapentin, and Cerenia. These medications aren’t just about alleviating anxiety or managing pain; they’re about nurturing a sense of calm and security for your furry friend throughout their procedure and recovery.

In case anyone is curious, this is how we run a toxicity test with your pets urine! It can collected via: free catch, placing a urinary catheter, or performing a cystocentesis (where we poke the bladder with a needle and extract the urine - this is the most sterile form!) Can you tell which one is positive??🧐🧪 #urinalysis #toxicitytest #urinetest #vetclinic

Diabetic management in cats can be difficult but this new glucose monitor is a huge improvement and sends notifications right to your phone! In this video, we have Dr McRorie apply the Freestyle Libre 2 glucose monitor to one of her diabetic cat patients and then connecting it to the owners phone via bluetooth! How cool!! #diabeticcat #diabetes #freestylelibre #freestylelibre2 #glucosemonitoring #vetclinic #vetmed #vettech #veterinarian

Check out Milli’s new skills!!! 👏👏👏 Here is Milli is demonstrating how she uses a scratch board to help keep her nails filed down. A wonderful alternative to trimming with clippers. Would you believe this was her first session?? 🎓 Milli is enrolled in our Cooperative Care sessions where we work to get her used to feet handling and nail trimmers. But while we work on that, this is a fun and effective way to keep many nails from getting too long. Great job Milli!! #cooperativecare #kamloopsveterinaryclinic
Congratulations Archie! Archie completed his muzzle training with flying colours 🥇 Archie is a wonderful dog but does not enjoy the company of other dogs. His guardians enrolled him in muzzle training to help prevent any accidents from happening while they are out and about with him. Many dogs wear muzzles for many different reasons and muzzle training is an important step to take. Archie has a very positive association with his muzzle and does not mind wearing it at all ❤️ If your dog can benefit from muzzle training b talk to us about these sessions.
Zola’s Cystotomy
Meet Zola! Zola is an 11 year old, female spayed German Shepherd Mix. Zola presented to us near the end of June as she was having small, frequent urinations. After running a urinalysis, a urinary tract infection was diagnosed. Zola was placed on antibiotics with a follow up urinalysis recommended once antibiotics were finished. Zola came back after her antibiotics with the same symptoms and after re-running a sample, the infection had not cleared. The next step was to take an x-ray to rule out bladder stones - and bladder stones we did find! "Bladder stones, also known as urolithiasis or cystolithiasis, are solid mineral deposits that form inside the bladder of dogs and cats. Stones start out as crystals that form in the urine. These crystals form when a combination of events takes place, such as urine pH change (pH is a measure of acidity and alkalinity in urine), increased urine concentration, and changes in the mineral makeup of the urine being formed. Over time, the crystals combine and layer together to form bladder stones." Due to the size of Zola's stones, surgical removal was recommended. This surgery is also known as a "Cystotomy". Zola went in for surgery the following day. Follow along Zola's surgery day with us - everything went very smoothly, and Zola got to go home the same day. It has now been 2 months since her surgery and the owners state she has been doing well! Zola was placed strictly on a urinary diet to help the prevention/maintenance of bladder stones. For more information on bladder stones, see this great article: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=9421365
