FUREVER HOME NEEDED!

Meet Benny! This energetic lovebug is in need if his furever home. He is 10 months old, neutered, vaccinated, ID tattooed and microchipped.

Benny came to his current home with bright energy and full of snuggles. He loved his fellow dog brothers until he grew like a bean sprout and became incompatible with one. He loves the dog park and every dog he meets, and still loves his brother. But the disrupt in the home has caused an unfortunate decision to give Benny his best life possible; in another home.

Benny would be best as a single dog in the home but with lots of play and exposure to other dogs. He is miserable when he misses the dog park! Benny has exposure to cats but if they run, he wants to chase and play! He has had exposure to a 1 year-old child with success and curiosity.

Benny loves walks, people, snuggles (he thinks he’s a lap dog), fetch and ear scratches most of all.

The Karissa Wilson Fund was created to support our community of pets in need. This fund will act as a reserve for special cases for animals who need specific treatment and necessary funds that might not be available.

We sent out an email recently that highlights the new rules for bringing your dog to the US from Canada! As of August 1st the regulations are changing in order to cross the border with your dog but the basics are that:

🐾 Your dog must be older than 6 months and have an updated rabies vaccine

🐾 Your dog must have a valid microchip

🐾 Valid vaccine certificate showing both proof of chip and rabies vaccination

🐾 A completed CDC Dog Import Form before crossing

You can visit the link below to the CDC website for more information and specifics, but we urge clients to make sure you're well prepared in advance to travel with your dog! If your dog needs their vaccine or a microchip then call the clinic well ahead of your expected travel time to make an appointment to avoid any hiccups in your travel plans as they roll out these new regulations!

ANNOUNCEMENT!!

Due to the opening of Phases and seeing decreased demand for appointments on Sunday, as well as in the interest of preventing staff burnout, we will be CLOSING again, on Sunday, starting in June. However, this means we will be able to schedule more staff during Saturday and other days of the week to hopefully accommodate more appointments at these times!

Side note, we also had a new phones installed a few days ago, so thank you for your patience while our staff learn how to use the new system! 🙏

Frodo the beardie was a delight at his appointment with Dr. Pedrick the other day! Frodo came in for a general health check and is a big, healthy guy! Bearded dragons and other exotics are often too small to listen to their heart with a regular stethoscope, so we use a machine called a doppler!

Essentially the doppler is a small speaker attached to a probe that we apply to the chest with a small bit of ultrasound gel. It picks up the heart sounds and plays them back audibly over the speaker so that we can assess heart rate and listen for any abnormal heart sounds.

We are always happy to see our exotic patients and it's always a good idea to bring them in for regular health exams just like a dog or cat! Give the clinic a call if you'd like to book in your furry, feathered or scaly friends! 🦎🦜🐇

In the interest of keeping our clients as up to date on any formulation changes in our prescription diets, Royal Canin recently released that some of their Gastrointestinal diets for both dogs and cats will be changing slightly. If your pet is on any of the changes formulations listed below, it is recommended to do a slow transition between the old and new formulation.

If you have any questions about any of our diets or need advice on how to transition foods for your pet, please contact the clinic!

Did you know we can see birds? It's true! We are able to take on a number of exotic pets!

Cookie here is a cockatiel that came in recently for a wellness exam with Dr. Pedrick! He was a very good boy for his visit and is happy and healthy!

Easter is right around the corner! Please note we will be CLOSED for Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We will be open in the middle of the long weekend on Saturday for your convenience! Have a safe long weekend! And don't forget Easter lilies are extremely toxic especially to cats! If you have fur babies in the home leave the lilies alone!

🐾We wanted to share a story about a recipient of our Karissa Wilson Fund, Emma! Emma came to us with some pretty severe skin troubles and thanks to the Fund we were able to come up with some more answers and a treatment plan to help bring her and her humans some much needed relief.🐾

Our Karissa Wilson Fund helps cover some or all of the cost of veterinary care for owners who may be otherwise unable to afford treatment.

️Here is our very important training session that we were closed early for on Wednesday! Our staff had the chance to do some life saving RECOVERY training with Dr. Carrigan. RECOVERY training taught us the necessary skills needed to respond in the event that an animal goes into cardiac arrest while at the clinic.

It's already February again and Dental Health Month is back! Your pet's dental health is an important part of their overall well being, much like our own! Gingivitis, tartar and tooth abcesses occur in animals much like they do in humans and left untreated can cause a host of other problems systemically.

If you suspect problems with your pet's dental health, such as bad breath, loss of appetite or swelling in the mouth, don't hesitate to contact the clinic for a dental assessment.

We are excitedly awaiting the opening of Kamloops' own emergency hospital! We are happy we will soon be able to refer patients to a local 24 hour clinic in case of emergencies after hours.
