UPDATE/CLARIFICATION:

This post is an announcement that the BC Government has Proclaimed October as RVT Month.

While this is very exciting, we would like to clarify that this is NOT a regulatory change for RVTs, but simply an acknowledgement of their value in the veterinary team.

We continue to work toward regulation and will be sure to provide more significant communications if and when that becomes a reality.

📣 Daisy’s Comeback: Karissa Wilson Recipient 🐾💛

When sweet Daisy came to us, she was lethargic, vomiting, and clearly unwell. She clearly needed to be admitted into our hospitals care, which can be costly.

Our Veterinary team ran multiple tests—radiographs with BIPS, ultrasounds and blood work 💲.

Daisy was supported with fluids and many intravenous medications

Exhausting all options and supportive care, her exact diagnosis remained unclear — a frustrating reality for many pets with chronic gastrointestinal issues.

But we didn’t give up. 🩺

Her veterinary team suspected underlying GI inflammation, possibly IBD or another condition affecting her ability to absorb nutrients properly. That's when we introduced a key part of her treatment plan: Vitamin B12 injections.

Daisy received weekly B12 injections for several weeks — and the improvement was remarkable. Her appetite returned, her energy lifted, and... We haven't seen her back at the clinic since! 🐶✨
She’s home, happy, and thriving. 💚

Thanks again to the Karissa Wilson Fund (all of you donators) for helping cover the cost of her care because without it Daisy would not have been able to undergo the diagnostics that guided our Doctors to her recovery. We also would like to thank Daisy’s dedicated family for trusting us with her journey.

Our food bank will be happening tonight, and we are happy the weather is looking fair! Honestly, we were a bit relieved to skip that intense heat last Tuesday! Phew!

We will be open for the first three food banks of each month so just keep an eye on those months like July and September which have five Tuesdays. In those months we will be closed for the last *two* Tuesdays.

We hope this doesn't cause confusion! We are simply needing those occaisional weeks to help us restock incoming donations enough that we can stay consistent with three food banks each month.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Sarah Pihowich, who will be joining Riverside Small Animal Hospital in Kamloops, British Columbia!

Dr. Sarah is most looking forward to working with such an experienced team! "I have heard so much about the excellent care that Riverside is able to provide for patients and I cannot wait to continue to learn and grow with the support team there." She is very passionate about surgery, and Riverside Small Animal Hospital is the perfect place to further her skills learning from the experienced surgeons who work there.

When she is not in the clinic, you can find her birdwatching, kayaking, fishing, skiing, and gardening with her partner in their community veggie garden!

Dr. Pihowich also has three rescue kittens: Gemma, Millie, and Lil' Kim, shy sweethearts she adopted four years ago.

☀️ Long weekend alert! ☀️

Just like most of your pets, our staff pets think a few extra days at the lake before summer ends sounds purr-fect 🌊🐟

That being said, our clinic will be closed Monday Sept 1st so our team (and their furry sidekicks) can enjoy the long weekend too.

We will be back to regular “swimming” hours Tuesday, Sept 2!

Wishing you all a safe and happy long weekend filled with sunshine, belly rubs, and maybe a splash or two in the water 💦!
