Taking new clients...

WE NOW HAVE ROOM to take on a few more NEW CLIENTS. We focus a lot on the emotional well-being of your dog/s and to the root causes of the particular issues you and your dog may be facing. Whether it is reactivity (of any kind), overcoming fears and anxiety, theirs or yours actually. from basic training and more complex training, both in obedience and behavioural, to understanding your dog's cues and body language and how your own plays apart in crucial training.
Best of all we do P.A.Y.G. (Pay As You Go) and all our training is conducted in your home and in real life situations and places. We train you to train your dogs from puppyhood, adolescence, middle-aged to old age and everywhere in between.

For those of you who may not know, the voting has started for 'The Best of Kamloops' businesses and services. I have four beautiful dogs..5-9-12 and 14 years old. Unfortunately, my 5yr old Aussie and my 9 year old Papillon, rarely see eye to eye, both females. This year we have had two attacks from my Aussie towards my Pap, the last one was what appeared totally unprovoked in the river a few days ago. We have played peacefully at the river many times, but this time, my Pap was bringing in the ball to land, and my Aussie went out to take the ball from her. We heard nothing, but that is not to say my Pap didn't growl, and the next thing we knew my Aussie was shaking her by the scruff and partially under the water, which probably saved her to be honest as it slowed down the shake..
My Aussie is dog friendly, very social, loves her 'brothers", but I guess all these years of being bossed around by my Pap, she has finally had enough.
SO, we may well be finding a new home for Kes, because my Pap is a senior, and Kes is young. It is not fair for either dog to live with fear from the other. Remember, when you have a multi dog household, none of the dogs got to choose who came home. We do that. Most dogs live harmoniously together, but sometimes they don't and I know Kes has put up with Poppy for five years, nearly six now, and although we have always intervened and managed it, we cannot put either dog in the position of seriously harming or worse.
I have not made up my mind completely, because Kes is the love of my life, but I have to think of both dogs now. This is not about me. If anyone is interested in a wonderfully trained dog like Kes, please pm me. There are certain things she is anxious about, like children, she is scared of them and takes a long time to warm up. I will not place her in a home with children for her sake. obviously she would do best with male dogs, although she has always been fine with dogs of both sexes, large and small, just not Poppy. However, I would never place her with a small dog. I would not want her to be with another female either.
She is good around cats and chickens/ducks. She is loving and affectionate. She is good on leash and off leash. She has great manners, crate trained, good in the car. No health issues. Everyone that meets Kes loves her and of course, she is beautiful.
Realise, just like all the people I have helped place their own dogs in new homes, no one does this lightly. It is always in the best interest of the dogs. For those that say, "I would never give up my dog, not for anything", perhaps you have never been in a place where you have to do the best for your dog and not for yourself.. So please, no judgement. My page has always welcomed all comments other than rude, I don't judge others and I am happy to have healthy debates, but if anyone wants to tell me I should do this or that, I will delete the comment. This will not be a time that I will accept criticism on my page.
Walk a mile in someone else's shoes....

No photo right here, but if you care to look through my page you will find videos and photos. You will see videos on my Youtube page, I have done this on purpose, because I do not want her photo to be the focus of attention, I want people to read this in it's entirety. If you really want to know you will look through to find her..

Just wanted to give a "shout out" to Aberdeen Veterinary Hospital for always taking care of my doggies. Went in this morning to see Ken with my two oldies and he is so gentle and caring. They got a clean bill of health apart from being old and arthritic..the front end staff are also lovely to deal with and always so kind..I had been away for two years and now as I am back it is like I never left. So grateful to have such a clinic taking care of my beloved pets!!

Depending on which trainers you follow on social media you may or may not know that Jo-Rosie, Archie the Super Pit & Co. is putting together a "chat" session on August 28th. Her guests are some of the biggest in the dog world, Michael Shikashio, Kim Brophey, Ivan Balabanov, Sarah Whitehead to name but a few. These trainers are not all alike, but they are coming together to discuss tools and trainer unity.
These trainers are positive based and balanced based. So they are not up for arguments, or trying to persuade any of the others or you to change your stance on dog training, however, once you have had a chance to listen to them, perhaps it will change your mind on how you train!
As a "crossover" trainer myself, people can always change. and honestly, I think we learn something from everyone. Education is the key to training, not which "camp" you reside in, not bashing all other trainers that do not train the same way you do..but training by example, believing in your methods to train humanely and ethically, with compassion and kindness, tools or no tools..and always with the dogs' emotional well being in the forefront of everything you do with your dog.
You never know who is watching you out and about, thinking "I wish my dog would listen to me like that, I wish my dog would look at me like that, I wish my dog was having the fun your dog is with you"..
Just like everything in life, do your best, learn, be kind, be humble, and put yourself in someone else's shoes once in a while, maybe you can make a difference..and I think this is what this "chat" with all these guest speakers is about..let's not separate but come together instead!

If you are interested in some private one on one *lessons*, please pm me.
*Must have done at least Intro to Agility either with us or any other agility trainer. ( I might make an exception for those with reactive (to other dogs) dogs. But know that private sessions are more costly than group sessions.

I look at my Golden, Jack, sugar faced now and will be 13 years old in October. I do not know where the time goes. So occasionally I look at this video in slow motion of Jack and myself to music. He was barely 1 year old here and his only motivation for this little bit of heel work was the ball I was holding in my hand. It is certainly not perfect and we were not striving for any competitions, just basically playing and bonding. At the end, please note, I am not hitting him, rather pushing my hand into his face to say let's place with the ball!! I hope you enjoy this. Please put the sound on.

BIG NEWS!! We are relocating back to the Kamloops area as of July 31st!! We learned our house sold last night officially, I am so excited and so looking forward to seeing you all again, plus any new clients. We will be looking for a place to either rent or buy and once we do, ( please share if you have any leads ) we will have some more news to share..our adventure in Alberta these past two years has been great, we have met some wonderful people and clients, but I confess to missing my BC clients a lot.
We have a place to stay temporarily when we get back to Kamloops and then we will be hunting more earnestly for somewhere to live from there.

Our Story

Cam K9 Services started back in 2008, named after one of the greatest dogs I ever had the pleasure and honour to have in my life. He taught me so much in his 16 years on this earth. Previously to Cam, I had been working with dogs for over 35 years, training, competing in Flyball, Agility, Obedience, Herding, dabbled in some Musical Freestyle, really as much “dog joy” as I could. My dog training style has evolved over the years from old school “check chain” training to more positive and “relationship based” training. We hope to add in Herding Instinct Training as well by the summer of 2021. Kathy and I still do in home training and consults and we now have two Kamloops trainers for our ever growing clientele list. Plus when required I can help with rehab of post op cruciates and a variety of other orthopedic surgeries. I am a Certified Canine Hydrotherapist and have been doing this for 10 years now. I have owned 2 pools and when Kamloops had their own pool, I worked in there as well. I am also trainer for Xtreme Air Dock Diving for BC. We do not get a lot of opportunity for this in Kamloops but I am willing to travel to give workshops to those that have pools at least 33 feet long, but better yet the standard 40 foot pools. Our location is now in beautiful Louis Creek. We have now opened up our very exclusive and luxurious K9 B & B to take in guest for boarding. We are unlike any other boarding facility in the Kamloops area and we are very proud to offer this service here.
