A bit of a post about doodles. Why does it cost so much to get my doodle groomed?
Doodles are mixed with a poodle and usually a double coated breed. Poodles have “hair” and do not shed, while double coated breeds have an undercoat as well as guard hairs. This means they are susceptible to the genetics of both breeds, including in the formation of their coats. The undercoat mixes in with the hairs and causes matting if not removed and maintained properly.
Today jack the cutest golden doodle there ever was got a bath, deshed treatment and then a haircut. Pictured is about 3 minutes of undercoat stripping, after his deshed treatment. There was about 15 minutes of work after this photo before he was considered “prepped” for his haircut. Lots of the time with mixed coats groomers are almost doing 2 full grooms on one dog!
To get the best finish on your dogs haircut, you want your groomer to understand the basic maintenance of each breed and prepare it using the tools you would for each type of coat present on the dog.
Thank you Jack!
