Tucked in for the Winter ❄️🧄

Even though we’re snowed in today here in Kelowna, the garlic is right where it needs to be—tucked away nicely under its winter blanket. While it might seem like nothing is happening under all that snow, this cold, dormant period is exactly what garlic needs to thrive!

Garlic is planted in the fall before the ground freezes, allowing the cloves to establish roots before winter fully sets in. Then, as temperatures drop, the garlic enters a necessary dormancy phase, much like a hibernating bear. This cold exposure is crucial—it signals to the cloves that when spring arrives, it’s time to wake up and start growing!

As soon as the weather warms, little green shoots will begin popping up through the soil, soaking up the sunshine and growing strong. By early summer, those tiny sprouts will have transformed into full garlic bulbs, ready to be harvested! 🌱✨

So while we may be stuck inside today, the garlic is outside doing exactly what it’s supposed to—getting ready for an amazing growing season ahead. Can’t wait to see those shoots in the spring!

Throwback to my amazing trip to Zambia last year! ✨ Upon landing, my "brother from another mother," Golden, the proud owner of Funk Adventures, had the most incredible experience lined up for me. He was scheduled to welcome and es**rt none other than Team Barcelona to Livingstone, Zambia! 🇿🇲⚽ It was a surreal moment, and as a soccer mom, being part of this was truly a dream come true.

One of the highlights was reconnecting with my former boss, now Livingstone Mayor, Ms. Constance Nalishebo Muleabai, who was part of the welcome team too. We all joined forces to welcome Barcelona, took them to the Radisson Blu hotel where they met the Zambia national team, and wrapped up with a breathtaking boat cruise on the Mighty Zambezi River 🌊🚤.

It’s Women’s Work Wednesday! Not only am I a farmer during garlic planting week, but I’m also a mom of 5, juggling school drop-offs, soccer practices, and everything in between. 🧄🚗⚽ It’s a lot, but there’s nothing quite like getting those bulbs in the ground and making sure the kids are where they need to be. Here’s to all the women out there balancing it all – we’ve got this!
