Seven Years of Learning, Growth, and Gratitude

This past weekend marked our 7th year hosting Josh Nichol here at Nordika Farm — and somehow, every single year, the learning deepens. Just when I think I’ve grasped the heart of this work, Josh opens a new door of understanding. His wisdom continues to shape not only how we work with horses and dogs, but how we show up in life — with presence, feel, and compassion tempered by the kind of grit that only comes from showing up, leaning in, and working through the hard parts.

I am endlessly grateful for his mentorship and the depth he brings to every conversation and moment. 🙏

But what truly made this clinic special — as always — was the community. The laughter, the breakthroughs, the thoughtful questions, and the quiet moments of realization shared among such genuine, passionate people. Every one of you brought something unique to this space, and together, we made something truly memorable.

Each year, these clinics remind me why I do this work. They’re not just about learning — they’re about becoming.

Thank you, Josh, for continuing to guide us on this journey.
And to everyone who joined us — thank you for showing up with open hearts and willing minds.

An update for everyone who has been asking… our 2024 Lusitano c**t Uriel NF (Uri) is growing into the sweetest, handsomest and most well behaved gentle man out there. I have really be struggling with deciding if I’m keeping him or if he’s being sold and have decided I will leave it up to the universe as I’m hopeless when it comes to making up my mind about this boy.

Uri is a big boy, already a good clean 15.3hh at a year old which makes me think he will easily reach his sires height or close to at 17.1hh (hoping for 16.3 hh if he accidentally happens to stay here 😆) he’s been rediculously bidable and easy to handle, which is not helping the whole wanting to keep him problem. This boy is well into his preschool learning and growing wiser every day. He has recently made a new best friend named Walter who is the perfect buddy for a yearling c**t. Between play fighting and napping together these two boys are fairly inseparable.

So until the unicorn person shows up for this exceptional dude…. I guess he will just have to be a resident of our little mountain top farm 🤔 🤷🏻‍♀️😝🥰

We’re not just offering horse boarding — we’re curating a community. Nordika Farm is a boutique mountaintop facility for riders who want more than just a place to keep their horse. We’re looking for a few great people to join our farmily — folks who love to ride, connect, learn, and enjoy the journey with their horses and fellow horse lovers.

A quiet mountaintop retreat, just 15 minutes from central Kelowna, where the air is fresh, the trails are endless, and the view stretches for miles. Horses graze in peaceful paddocks, riders share stories over the fence line, and weekends mean clinics, trail rides, and laughter echoing from the arena. It’s a place where you and your horse are known, welcomed, and supported.

What We Offer:
• 2 paddock spots available (full or semi self-board)
• 1 “paddock paradise” spot in a small gelding herd on our track system
• Free-choice hay in slow feeder nets (low-sugar hay available for metabolic needs)
• Round pen (60’), riding arena, and secure tack shed

• Expansive public and private trail access
• Mountain trail course in development

An Ode to our pet Turkey: Kiki

A turkey is more than its feathers and beak,
More than the gobble that sounds kinda weak.

It’s a bird full of stories, both young and old.

A New Chapter: The Transformation from Huckleberry Hollow Farm to Nordika Farm & Retreat

I wanted to take a moment to explain why we've made some significant changes to our business name and services. As many of you know, we originally operated under the name Huckleberry Hollow Farm and Eco Retreat, a haven that included a retreat, a riding school, and a boarding facility for many years. However, the aftermath of Covid brought with it challenges, and I found myself overwhelmed and burnt out, having spent so much time catering to the needs of others that I lost sight of why we moved to the mountains in the first place.

We initially sought a peaceful, transformative property that would bring joy and change to people’s lives. But somewhere along the way, I lost track of my personal dreams and aspirations. A turning point came when I realized that the name Huckleberry Hollow had been used multiple times across various farms, which signaled that it was time for a fresh start and a new direction.

With this new vision, we decided it was not only time for a business restructuring but also a name change. And so, we present to you Nordika Farm & Retreat.

Over the past few years, we made the decision to close down our riding school and have dramatically altered our boarding facility. Our focus now is to maintain a boutique-style boarding program, where the welfare of the horses comes first. But above all, our true passion lies in building up our breeding program, developing high-quality working and sport horses for those seeking their dream mounts.

Additionally, we’ve chosen to expand the retreat aspect of our farm. In the near future, we’ll be adding campsites and creating more opportunities for events and activities beyond just horse-related experiences. With the arrival of 2025, expect to see a wider array of events and private booking options.

Our commitment to regenerative farming remains at the heart of Nordika Farm. With the help of our sheep and other livestock (including a few cows joining us this spring), we are actively working to rehabilitate and regenerate the land. It brings me great joy to witness the significant improvements in our soil and the abundance of vegetation, even amid the challenges of our hot summers.

We’re also thrilled to announce that our Okanagan Stockdogs program will be based at Nordika Farm. This program will offer both group and private herding lessons for dogs, giving people the chance to enjoy recreational and urban herding. If this is something that excites you, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

As part of these changes, we will be retiring the Huckleberry Hollow page and focusing all of our efforts on our Nordika Farm page. We’re excited about what the future holds, and we look forward to sharing more amazing opportunities with you in 2025 and beyond.
