This custom roots washer has worked hard for us over the years & is a true asset to the farm.

One crate full of roots (beets, carrots, radishes, turnips, etc) gets loaded into the front of the metal drum, which has a gate that latches closed. As it spins, water sprays from overhead & washes all the dirt off the tumbling roots.

We operate it by connecting a hose + plugging it into an outlet. This amazing custom roots washer was made by our neighbour Cliff - an incredible welder/handyman. We truly appreciate his craftsmanship everyday!

Sunny Garlic Harvest

It is really feeling like late summer around here. The field is maxed out & in full-bloom, yielding tons of summer crop harvests like garlic, tomatoes, zucchini, patty pan squash, cucumbers, and eggplant.

Just today, we seeded 70 new trays full of autumn crops. The winds are changing & we are taking the time to appreciate the abundance of the summer while it is here.

For the past four years, Myles has set up the booth at the Kelowna Farmer’s Market every Saturday.

Unloading, stacking, and presenting your vegetables at the farmers market is always such a rewarding activity.

It’s the moment where you witness your time, effort and tending come together to form beautiful, nutritious food. The moment of connection between farmer & community.

After a week of working in the field, every market feels like a celebration. We exchange hundreds of words of gratitude & leave feeling inspired for the week to come. Come see us tomorrow!! 🫶🏼

Myles’ typical Saturday Schedule:

5:00am - wake up

5:45am - arrive at the farm

6:20am - begin setting up booth at the farmers market

7:50am - finish setting up booth at the farmers market

8:00am - market open

8:01am - 1pm - good times

Gab packing carrots for the Kelowna Farmers Market.

Each week, we spend all day Thursday packing all of our orders for our local restaurants, CSA members & Kelowna Farmers Market.

In order to accomplish a timely & accurate packing day, we try to use efficient movements that are quick and consistent.

Each bunch or bag needs to be considered and weighed accurately. We strive for each one to be beautiful & generous.

The carrots are one of the most interesting crops to sort and pack. We often get the most laughs (and the worst creeps) when packing the carrots. Gab is a true master of this craft - an experienced & adept packer!

Zucchini, Patty Pan Squash & Zucchini Blossoms 🔆

The zucchini & patty pan plants have been absolutely loving all of this hot summer weather!

We have an abundance of beautiful fruits ready to be enjoyed! This year, we are growing two varieties of zucchini: noche (dark green) and pantheon (light striped green).

For our Okanagan Chefs and local customers, we are also offering fresh zucchini blossoms! A very special plate garnish or interesting stuffed/deep fried appetizer. Available or order on our website.

Bed Prep ~in 3 stages~

Stage 1: Flipping the old beds

This step involves removing all of the weeds and old plant residue/broken down organic material that remains from the previous crop.

In an ideal situation, the beds would be under cover (clear or black tarp) for a week, as to allow for a natural decomposition from the sun.

Stage 2: Preparing the new beds

After weeding, raking + picking up the piles, we prepare the new beds. The primary objective is to end up with soil that is loose enough to plant into with the paper pot transplanter. We do this by adding mulch/compost at the beginning of the season and cultivating when necessary, either with the wheel hoe or tilther.

Stage 3: Planting the new crop

Once the beds are ready, we use the paper pot transplanter system to plant the majority of our seedlings. One person can run the transplanter, while others can help fill in all the missing plugs + cover up the seedlings with soil.

Beautiful butterhead lettuce! One of our favourite heads of lettuce to grow.

They’re perfectly shaped for lettuce wraps/tacos & have an incredible texture for salads.

This season we’re setting up 1 new caterpillar tunnel + 1 new hoop house 🎉 Thank you to our friend Simon for selling them to us!

This means more space for heat-loving summer crops + more variety of produce in the spring and fall!
