Hello Everyone!

We can’t believe it’s been over a year since we closed the kennel! We were fortunate to be able to sell and relocate 6 of our kennels but we still have units that we hope someone can use.

These are our “duplex units” and 5 are available (10 kennels in total). They are approximately 12’ x 6’ in size and include heaters, air conditioners, bowls, radios and night lights.

It would be a great business opportunity for someone if they have a property which would be eligible for a kennel license. We would also be available to answer questions as you get your business up and running.

The outdoor chain link runs are free with the purchase of the kennels although they would need to be dismantled. I am also selling chain link fencing and board fencing.

If you are interested and would like to see our kennels, email us at petcottages@ gmail.com.
We can also discuss pricing at that time and the way the previous buyer moved his units.

We hope someone out there would love to continue our business!

Please note that, after 23 years of operation, Home Alone Pet Cottages is now closed.

With the ongoing pandemic, we’ve made this difficult decision, as we were looking at a very slow spring season for the third year in a row.

We do not intend to re-open the business in the foreseeable future, however, if this changes, we will post a note here.

We will, of course, miss seeing everyone and caring for the pets!

All the best for a happy and safe 2022.

Kathy & John

Thanks to all my customers for making the summer of 2021 a busy one! It was nice to see everyone again and also to meet so many new dogs this year.
The kennel will be closed from September 11 to September 30 to allow us to do some repairs and have a break from the busy summer season. We'll be open all fall and until mid-January, when we close for the winter, re-opening in time for March break 2022.

My husband took this view over part of the kennel while he was on the roof pruning a tree.

We have been available for boarding during the pandemic but will be taking a break mid-September to early October.

Clearing out the kennel today in preparation for our opening on March 5th. Over a foot of snow and around 50 gates & doors to shovel out! But a beautiful day for it!

We’ll be operating again until May 20th, then closing for a few weeks to replace some fencing and kennel flooring, as well as to celebrate my husband’s retirement from his pharmaceutical consulting business.

We’ll be open again Monday October 7th for boarding.

I was pleasantly surprised to see my friend, Kelly, had sent a picture of my labs to our local paper!

Thanks so much to all my customers for a busy summer at the kennel! We're now on holidays until Monday October 7th, so will be unavailable for boarding pets during this time, however we will be returning phone calls and emails.

Will be also be taking a few days off in November (24th to 29th) to celebrate John's 60th birthday.

Our winter break will be from Jan. 20 until the first week of March.

It’s almost that time of year again when we take our fall break. This year we’ll be closed from September 14 to October 6. This will give us time to do some maintenance at the kennel and take our vacation.

It was a busy summer, with an average of 25 boarding dogs and 4 boarding cats every day!

Congratulations to my 14 1/2 year old dog, Buster, for winning 1st prize in the Veterans dog category at the Sutton fair. He was shown by Scott Wilkinson.
My lab, Jack, loved his prize ball.

03/05/2019

We will be open again for boarding on Tuesday March 5, 2019. Please note we have limited availability the week of March 11-17. We look forward to seeing you and your pet(s) again soon!
Our spring repairs will begin May 28 and we will be on holidays thereafter until June 19.

11/03/2018

Our Winter Shut-Down Period for 2019 will be from January 19 until March 5, inclusive. We apologize that we will not be available to board your pet, as escalating hydro costs have made running the kennel at this time of year extremely expensive.

We do have a few spaces left during Christmas, but are filling up fast!

We welcome new customers to schedule a tour of our facility with your pet. Will will provide you with a detailed information package and treats for your pooch!

We will be opening again Friday June 15 for our busy summer season. Our new 8 foot high fence we had built during our spring shut-down looks amazing!
Please note our next break will be September 12-30, 2018, followed by our winter-shut down from late January to early March, 2019.

05/17/2018

Please note we will be closed for our annual spring repairs from Sunday May 27 to Thursday June 14 (inclusive). We will be taking this time to paint and improve our fencing, as well as take a much needed break before our busy summer season starts. Then we will be available 7 days a week until our fall break in mid-September. We appreciate your understanding and hope to see you and your pet soon!

03/05/2018

We are happy to announce we have been selected as 2nd Place Winners in the Readers' Choice Awards! Thank-you to everyone who voted for us!

12/15/2017

Please note that we will be closed this winter from Friday January 19th, 2018 until Wednesday March 7, 2018.

We apologize that we are unavailable to board your pet at this time, but due to the increasing cost of hydro to heat our facility in the colder months, it was taking over half of our after tax income to cover utilities alone.

We remain available by phone and email during this time.

After a busy summer season, we will be taking a break from Sept. 12-30, so will not be available for boarding during this time.
We also have our never ending list of maintenance items to address, so will be replacing some more kennel doors, painting, installing a new pressure tank, and performing maintenance on our water purification system.

06/13/2017

Spring Repairs almost complete - 12 kennel doors replaced, brand new hot water tank installed, office windows replaced, some painting done and dog run repairs in progress. Thanks to my handyman, Bob, and helper, Lori!

05/24/2017

Home Alone Pet Cottage will be closed from Saturday May 27 until Thursday June 15th. We will be busy painting and performing some repairs in order to have the kennel ready for our busy summer season. We apologize that we are unavailable at this time.

Something no one wants to happen to their pets.

Our dogs are so lucky.  Their home is a 50 acre farm and most of the time, they are off leash.  We love it and they love it, but it has come with a price through the years.  There are unforeseen dangers lurking in the forest and hidden in the brush that we tend to …

Many years ago, before we built the kennel, we would sometimes take dogs into our house.  I naively pictured these pets curling up with us in the living room, relaxed and content.   I soon came to the realization that, with in-home boarding, dogs that fit this description were few and far between. Great post from Kathy about life on our farm. I remember the Christmas dinners with her Grand Parents all those years ago.

As 2016 draws to a close, I often reflect on the past – there’s something about the end of another year that makes me a little bit sentimental.  I’ve thought about my grandparents a lot lately; after all, I live in their house and make a living on their property. I’m typing this post from …

Just a reminder that we will be closed for boarding from January 23 until March 1st. This is due to the fact that, in the last few years, it has become extremely expensive to heat our pet cottages, making it no longer viable to operate during this time.

10/26/2016

We invite everyone to visit us with their pet and see our kennels. We also have a comprehensive information package everyone receives on their tour.

Our daily hours are 9am-11:30am and 4-6pm. Please note we are closed in the afternoon as this is a quiet time for the pets and a break for kennel staff.
