As promised, we would like to introduce you to one of our new small animal veterinarians, Dr. Daina Rumble!

Daina grew up in Aurora, Ontario and has had a love for animals from a young age. She attended the university of Guelph and obtained a degree in biomedical sciences before completing her doctorate of veterinary medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College from 2020-2024.

Daina is one of the newest additions to the St. Lawrence team. After completing her externship placement here in summer 2023, she took on a small animal general practitioner position starting July 2024. Her special interests include soft tissue surgery and preventative medicine. Daina loves spending her spare time outdoors, with friends and family or snuggled up with her 2 rescue cats Franklin and Bug.

Welcome Dr. Rumble!

Did you know the rules for taking a dog to the USA are changing?

Dogs must be at least 6 months old, microchipped, and have a valid Rabies vaccination given AFTER the microchip is implanted. Additional paperwork is required as well.

Here is the most recent information available.

We just wanted to share what little information we have on the new requirements for crossing the border into the United States with dogs. Hopefully this help provides some answers to our clients for the time being.

These changes will come into effect on August 1, 2024 and will impact dogs travelling from Canada to the United States.

In summary it appears that they are going to regulations that are similar to the EU-

-Be at least 6 months of age at time of entry or return to the United States
-Have an implanted International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-compatible microchip
This must have been implanted prior to any required rabies vaccination
-The microchip number must be documented on all required forms and in all accompanying veterinary records
-form endorsed by an official veterinarian of the dog rabies-free or low-risk country where the dog has been located. This must be completed within 30 days before arrival to the United States;

Here is the official directive from the CDC.

Starting on August 1, 2024, dogs entering or returning to the United States must meet new, specific requirements depending on where they have been in the 6 months before entering the U.S. and where they received their rabies vaccines (if required).

In all seriousness, the eclipse will not be a concern for pets as they do not have any reason to look directly at the sun.
