My pretty friend Brie was visiting with us at Our Dog Spot last week. She is truly a delightful guest.
The other morning I decided that I had watched enough bad news, so instead, I started my morning coffee routine with a show called ‘Pet Collective’ on the Live T.V. channel. It’s a great way to start the day with a laugh. My friend Brie loves this show, she was glued to the T.V. all morning.
Pet Collective is a show of animal videos that show how similiar their emotions are to the humane side of people. Humane, as it is described in the Dictionary denotes the goodness of humans. Then what would you call animals, who not only display the best qualities of compassion for others, but would humble the human race in comparison? If you’re looking for acts of kindness on video, check ‘Pet Collective’ out. It’s a great way to start the day, and your pets might become avid fans as well.

NEW FRIENDS, NENA and her little brother, CONITO came for a PLAY DAY this week to become acquainted with life at OUR DOG SPOT - Home Vacations for Dogs. Nena is a husky mix and a bit of a
fire cracker, who embraces life to it's fullest. Conito, Nena's older but smaller brother, also husky mix, could be her polar opposite. He is more of a sage, you can almost see the wheels turning behind those yearning eyes. We had an enjoyable Play Day and I look forward to our next rendezvous.

My name is Colleen, the owner and operator of OUR DOG SPOT Bed & Breakfast for dogs only.
Allow me to tell you a little something about ‘sharing my life with dog’s’ history’. Back in the early 90’s my husband and I started a kennel. I wouldn’t settle for anything less than state of the art dog boarding. First everything except the floor had to be white, so that parents who brought their family dogs could see our kennel was clean and well cared for. Secondly, all their individual areas were very large. Radiant heat with a gas furnace ensured that anything airborne would not be blown around the building. We made sure to have full spectrum lighting to produce the same light indoors as the sun naturally produces. In the halls we had Indian rugs. There was great air conditioning in the summer months. We owned over 20 acres of open and hard wood forest. Three acres were cordoned off into two separate activity areas with 9 foot high galvanized steel fencing. The time came for us to consider a pension and so my husband went back to accounting and I became the person in charge (my husband will tell you that I have always been in charge). We had a very successful business and enjoyed every minute. I had always had a desire to run a small boarding operation in my home with a maximum of 5 guests, and so after ten years owning and operating this very successful business, the timing was right to make a change for a HOME AWAY FROM HOME atmosphere for my four legged guests. So we sold our business and bought an elegant century home in the town of Napanee in the fall of 2000. The home was a perfect set up for my husband and I to reside in one half of the home and the other half was set up with all the comforts of home for my four legged friends. They had a separate kitchen for individual meals, a large enchanting bedroom with four toddler beds and French provincial bedding, a large living room with a fireplace, television, extra wide window seats built by a master carpenter that stretched halfway around the room for the best window patrol and there were several floor beds as well, to suit individual preferences. Then there was the office where my little friends oversaw my office responsibilities. Outside we had a large pea stone courtyard and 3 levels of wood decking – a pool area, and two other decks for sunning or laying in the shade under grand old black walnut trees. My husband and I have worked hard over the years to create a wonderful space to really enjoy our life. We relocated our home business in 2017 to a waterfront home just outside Napanee on the Napanee River.
It was to be our forever home but ….In 2021 my husband became very ill and so we realized we needed a home and property that required less maintenance. We couldn’t find the right house in Napanee and so we decided to move to a lovely home in Kingston. So here we are residing at 1459 Sierra Avenue in Cataraqui Woods, Kingston. Now I am hosting a nightly guest list of no more than 3 guests who share complete access to the entire home and family living. Plenty of excise with four long walks a day.
It is important to me to introduce new guests safely and gently, so that every visit would be a positive adventure.
Play Day is a four hour visit to become familiar with myself and other guests that might be visiting. A short introduction to assure your puppy that it is a positive environment and that Mom and Dad will come back for them.
