We are thrilled to share that we will be hosting Shelly Lyck for a CARO Working Stream workshop this Fall! 🤓

Shelley Lyck is a CARO and CKC Rally Obedience judge, high level competitor, and instructor with many years of experience.

CARO Working is an independent titling stream within CARO which features a series of exercises derived from a variety of dog sports including obedience, agility, and scent work. Working class exercises demonstrate the incredible versatility of dogs, relying on a range of natural canine instincts, precise training and the partnership between dog and handler.

Rally-O is a dog sport in which the dog & handler team navigate a course side-by-side. As the team moves through the course they preform up to 20 signs per course, depending on the class level, that include various obedience skills including turns, position changes, and more!

Rally Obedience classes are a great way to fine tune your obedience skills, improve upon your working relationship with your dog, and most of all have fun! 🤩

We are so excited to share our drop-in Scent Detection summer series 🙌🏻 this series of practices is a great way to keep up with and build upon your scent detection skills over the summer without the commitment of a full 6 or 12 week session!

We have added two unique Scent Detection Practice options:

Eager to practise your agility skills but can’t commit to a full 12-week practice session? Looking for an air-conditioned space to exercise your agility dog this summer? We’ve got you covered!

We are pleased to share that we will be running agility drop-in practices weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM. A different course will be set up each week and our agility instructor, Cheryl, will be there to guide and cheer you on.

Calling all Junior Handlers (and aspiring Junior Handlers!) 🐾

Recently our resident Junior Handler, Addison, attended her first official dog show with her Irish Setter, Gretchen. We are so proud of her confidence in the ring with her pup! 🙌🏻

We are thrilled to share that she has inspired us to host Junior Handling classes this summer at our outdoor field in Harrowsmith, Ontario on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM, beginning June 26th, 2024 ☀️

Junior Handlers are welcome to bring their small-medium sized dogs or a stuffed animal to practice with. Our team will also have small-medium sized, experienced show dogs that are child-friendly available to share 🐶

This Junior Handling class is an opportunity for our next generation of dog-lovers to get hands on experience guided by Savannah MacKenzie.

Outdoor agility season is HERE! 🌞

If you haven't signed up for our outdoor sessions yet, it's not too late! We won't lie - getting out on the field with our dogs in the beautiful weather is something we look forward to all year long.

Outdoor agility sessions run at our field in Harrowsmith during the warmer months of the year and we are pleased to share that we have just a handful of spots left on Monday and Tuesday evenings for outdoor agility practice, kicking off next week!

These sessions are open to dog and handler teams who have completed all three levels of agility training with us.

The exciting news just keeps coming!

We are thrilled to share that we will be hosting Stephanie Perrier for a Scent Detection skill building workshop this summer. Stephanie is the head trainer of Competitive K9's in Ottawa, Ontario. She is an incredibly knowledgeable teacher and decorated competitor in Sporting Scent Detection.

Stephanie’s accomplishments in scent detection include 5 SD-S, 4 SD-A, 2 SD-Es, 2 SD-CH, 2 SD-MACH (the first in Canada to earn that title) and a SD-EL. Among these titles she has earned multiple specials, perfect scores, and judge’s choice awards.

This workshop is geared towards dog and handler teams that are working on odour in all three elements (Containers, Interior, and Exterior) at the Advanced level and beyond, and are preparing to or are already actively trialing in Sporting Scent Detection. We will work on search patterns, handling, distractions, multiple hides, and more!

These services will be available at our East Campus location ( #2-677 Innovation Drive) in Kingston, Ontario, and range from a Bath and Brush to a Full Groom for small, medium, and large dog breeds.

Did you know that dogs’ noses are at least 100,000 times more sensitive than ours? 😮

It’s no wonder that our canine pals are sniffing-obsessed! It’s just one of the reasons why Scent Detection is a wonderful activity for your dog.

Scent Detection is a dog sport open to dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages! This sport encourages dogs to exercise their natural instinct to sniff out a scent and communicate with their handler once they have located the scent in question. Scent detection can be done for fun or in a trial environment.

We offer three courses of Scent Detection at Luv-A-K9 for students who have completed Intermediate Obedience with us.

We have two Level I Scent Detection courses kicking off on the following dates:

What is Puppy Practice and Play, you ask? ⁠

It's a session specifically designed for pups currently enrolled in Puppy Kindergarten to gain additional socialization in a safe and controlled environment. ⁠

These sessions are closely moderated by staff to ensure appropriate play groups, fair play, and of course, safety. Puppies will have off-leash play time to engage with other pups (and people!) and an opportunity to reinforce learning with exercises from Puppy Kindergarten 📚

Puppy Practice and Play runs every Saturday from 9:00am - 10:00am at EAST campus. The cost per session is $20 +HST, which is collected onsite. ⁠

A huge congratulations to Luv-A-K9 team members and students who participated in The Agility Connection CARO Rally Obedience trial over the weekend! 🙌🐾

🐶 Grayson and Candice took home 2 Q’s with incredible scores of 200 and 191 towards his Advanced Rally title.

🐶 Tavish and Cheryl achieved a Q towards their Advanced Rally title!

🐶 Alex had a busy day with three dogs participating. Gideon gained valuable experience, Leia achieved her Novice Title, and Quinn achieved 1 Q towards her Advance title.

🐶 Geralt and Hannah achieved 2 Q’s toward their Novice Rally title!

📣 Luv-A-K9 student, Lenny, is bringing you a very important announcement that Luv-A-K9 and Luv-A-K9 Exclusive Services will be closed tomorrow, April 8th.

The City of Kingston is expecting upwards of 500,000 + people to descend on the city tomorrow to view the solar eclipse. This will present unprecedented logistical challenges regarding travel within the city limits.

As such, we will be following suit with other local businesses and closing for the day.

If you are scheduled to start a class tomorrow, your new start date will be at the same scheduled time, but commencing on Monday, April 15th, 2024.

If your class is already in session (at either East Campus or West Campus), your class will simply pause for one week and resume at your same time on Monday, April 15th, 2024. You will not lose any of your predetermined class time.
