Beatrice's arrival at our facility marked the beginning of an incredible journey, as she blossomed from a very young, ear mite-infested kitten into a resilient and loving companion.
As a feral kitten she initially hesitated to trust us, but over time, she has learned to embrace our affection, and we are now able to shower her with love and attention.

Beatrice has recently undergone spaying, vaccination, and microchipping, and although her ear mite infestation has caused damage to her ear canal, we are committed to helping her heal.
Despite her challenging start in life, Beatrice's spirit remains unbroken, and we are thrilled to have her in our care.
the ear mite infestation in her ear canal caused significant damage on the left side of her face. Her left eye doesn’t move much and her left lip is a bit droopy.
Upon further examination, her teeth aren’t in great condition, and at the tender age of five months, she will require dental surgery to remove them. This is a rare and remarkable procedure for a kitten so young.

Beatrice had a heart-wrenching start in life, but I am overjoyed that she was brought to us, giving us the opportunity to nurture her back to health. If you would like to contribute to help with her dental surgery, it would be a truly uplifting gesture, greatly appreciated.

Much love
Tammy

💔 A Message From the Heart of a Rescuer 💔🐾
Tammy Tanner-Velez

This isn’t easy to write.
But maybe it’s time people truly understood what rescue work feels like from the inside.

Every single day, I wake up knowing there are more animals out there than we can ever save.
In the Kitchener-Waterloo area alone, there are an estimated 15,000+ street cats.
We see them in alleys, under porches, behind dumpsters—sick, starving, scared, pregnant, abandoned.
And each one feels like a weight on our chest.
You don’t ever “get used to it.”
You just learn how to carry the heartbreak differently.

People often see the cute adoption photos.
What they don’t see is the hours of crying in the car because we couldnt save a cat in time.
They don’t see the messages at 1 AM, the emergencies, the “please help, I found another one,” the guilt we feel when we have to say no because we are full even though our hearts are screaming yes.

They don’t see me working full-time job
40 hours a week at work, and another 30 hours at the rescue—
trying to hold together my own life and medical issues while saving as many tiny lives as we can.

They don’t see the exhaustion, the skipped meals, the panic attacks, the emotional breakdowns behind closed doors when the weight gets too heavy.
They don’t see how much we blame ourselves for situations that were never our fault.

And then there’s the financial reality.
$3,600 every month just to rent the space that keeps these cats safe.
Another $2500 in medical bills—just so they can get healthy enough to be adopted.
That doesn’t include food, litter, equipment, repairs, vaccines, medication, cleaning supplies, or the dozens of things we never mention because it feels like we’re always asking for help.

Every person on this team is here because their heart won’t let them walk away.
Sometimes, that same heart gets shattered over and over again.

The hardest part?
We can only safely quarantine 15 cats / kittens at a time to monitor any diseases for the next 15 days.

15 For 15,000+ outdoor cats who need help.
When we say “we’re full,” it’s not rejection.
It’s grief.
It’s knowing more cats need us—and we physically, legally, and safely can’t take them in.

We hear comments like:
“Why can’t you take just one more?”
“Why can’t you do more?”
“Why are you saying no again?”

And those words cut deeper than people realize.
Because we’re already doing everything we can.
Every hour.
Every dollar.
Every ounce of strength.

Some days we can hold it together.
Some days we break.
Some days we look at the messages and feel like we are drowning in a sea of need that never ends.
But we get up anyway.
Because those cats have no one else.

To everyone who has supported us—
truly, from the bottom of my tired but determined heart—
thank you.
Your kindness, your shares, your donations, your fosters, your simple “thank you’s” are sometimes the only thing that gets us through the hardest days.

We are not asking for pity.
We’re asking for understanding.
Compassion.
Patience.
Respect for the limits that keep the animals—and us—safe.

💛 We can’t save them all. But we will save as many as we possibly can. One heartbeat at a time. One small miracle at a time.
And we hope you continue to stand with us, because we can’t do this alone.

Volunteers at Kitchener stray cat rescue take time away from their families to help save lives every day, it’s called labour of love. Remember that.❤️

Much love

Do you recall Mamacita? This super-chill, supermodel-esque mom cruised into our facility preggers and already wrangling two teeny-tiny 6-week-old divas. Mamacita is one stunning gal who's had the full spa treatment and is now on the hunt for a groovy pad. She gets along swimmingly with other felines. Poor Mamacita's spent a year and a half of her life being pregnant, but those days are behind her now. Imagine being pregnant three times a year and popping out 20 babies a year and times that by 15 years that’s a whole lotta babies!!!!

Thankfully Mamacita was rescued and she no longer has to deal with that drama.

Mamacita is available for adoption. I really hope she finds a home before Christmas.

This courageous senior girl is embarking on a new adventure today, one that will lead her to a radiant tomorrow, free from the pain of her past, where she bravely overcame a dog attack and received several stitches, but is now thriving.

We are dedicated to continuing her medical care and nurturing her back to full vitality, and in the meantime, we are on a mission to find her perfect forever haven, where she will be adored and cherished, and as she is already spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines, she will be ready to flourish in her new home in just 4 to 6 weeks.
It was heartbreaking for the owners to surrender her, but wisely they want her to have a stress-free home with no dogs as she is not a big fan of dogs for obvious reasons

My name is Tigger and I'm basically a senior citizen at the ripe age of 10. I got surrendered here and I'm not exactly thrilled about all these furry little lunatics.
This kitty lounge is driving me bonkers with all these kittens bouncing off the walls.
I prefer to lounge on my perch, roll my eyes, and think about how crazy they all are.
I'm desperate for a quiet home with no other cats and no dogs - seriously, can someone please adopt me from this feline madhouse?

Diesel has finally kicked his bad luck to the curb and rode off into the sunset, this poor dude had the worst luck ever, first getting slammed with a nasty upper respiratory a few months ago and then another vet visit for yet another issue. I’m happy to report that he’s finally home today. I’m sure you’re gonna miss this goofy boy, he’s been crashing at my pad for the last week getting his meds on, we even had a snuggle party last night when he snoozed with me. I’m beyond thrilled for you, Diesel, enjoy the rest of your life in style, indoors, of course.

How I started to rescue cats

Hi Everyone, welcome to my page! My name is Tammy, I am happily married with 4 children, I have always done rescues as far back as when I was 7 yrs old :)

I was that child who brought home all the stray animals, my heart still is the same when I see an abandon animal. As much as I would love to save them all ,it is impossible. Over 2000 kittens are born outside every year in Kitchener, only less then half are rescued and the rest have to get ready for the cold winter, sadly most of these kittens dont make it through the winter due to no water, no food or just freezing to death. A lot of cats are being dumped in this city for whatever reason, they were once loved domestic cats and they have a really hard time surviving in the big world and preparing themselves for a cold winter that they never been through.

I want to save as many cats and kittens off the streets that I can. I have a huge support group at home! My family is my life! and cats ;)

I created this group so the cats that I rescue off the streets can find a forever homes and also cats that have been surrendered that will need a new home.
