Don't forget to bring a fresh f***l sample with you to your puppy or kitten's first vaccine appointment! Some parasites like roundworms can be passed down to puppies and kittens when they nurse from their mothers. The best way to check for these parasites is a f***l sample (make sure the sample you bring in is less than 24 hours old - the fresher the better!)

Did you know….
Blacklegged ticks (the ones that can transmit the Lyme disease
bacteria) can survive freezing temperatures? One way is that
they create their own “anti-freeze” that helps them tolerate the
cold!
However, a new study showed that when they are infected with
certain bacteria, like the one that causes Lyme disease, they may
be even BETTER at surviving our cold winters! Call us to discuss
the best tick control options for your pet.

Tick season is upon us!

Did you know...

A new Canadian study showed that when a Blacklegged tick is
infected with the bacteria that causes Lyme disease it may be
more likely to survive Canadian winters! Yikes!

The tick, Ixodes scapularis, vectors pathogens such as Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterium that causes Lyme disease. Over the last few decades I. scapularis has expanded its range, introducing a novel health threat into these areas. Warming temperatures appear to be one cause of its range expansion....

*COVID-19 UPDATE*

Kitchener South Animal Hospital is happy to announce that we will be allowing fully vaccinated clients into the clinic starting November 1st! We will be allowing 1 person per appointment into the building with their pet(s). Proof of vaccination and masks will be required to enter the building. We will keep our doors locked, and ask that you still call from your vehicle once you arrive for your appointment. We will call you when we’re ready for you and your pet(s), and one of our staff members will meet you at the door. Medicine and food pickups will remain as curbside services for the time being. We are also happy to continue to offer curbside appointments to unvaccinated clients or anyone who isn’t comfortable entering the building yet. We look forward to seeing you all again soon!
