As the summer temperatures start to rise, it's essential for pet owners to be extra vigilant about their furry friends' well-being. Here 7 summer safety tips will keep your pup happy and healthy all season long:
1. Provide plenty of fresh water
2. Never leave them in a hot car (not even for a minute!)
3. Walk during cooler times – early morning or evening
4. Use dog-safe sunscreen on sensitive spots
5. Protect paws from hot pavement
6. Watch for signs of heatstroke (panting, drooling, agitation)
7. Supervise swimming & use life vests for weaker swimmers

Today we say goodbye to our tech, Erin, as she starts a research role at the Ontario Veterinary College. While we are sad, we are happy for Erin. Below is Erin’s goodbye to everyone:

“After 7 years as an RVT at Chicopee Hills Animal Hospital, it’s time for a new chapter.

I’m so grateful for the time I’ve spent here, for our amazing clients, and for the patients who have made every day so meaningful. Thank you for trusting me to care for your pets, and for all the laughs, conversations, and memories over the years.

To my team: thank you for being like family from day one. Your support has helped me grow from a brand-new grad into the tech I am today, and I will carry that with me as I move into my new role.

I’ll miss all the familiar faces (both human and furry), but I’m also excited for my next adventure. It’s definitely a very bittersweet goodbye.

Give all your pets a scritch for me!

Erin RVT”

We will all miss you, Erin! We wish you all the best on your new adventure.

Your dog’s brain is basically a furry genius in disguise. Keeping them mentally stimulated is just as important as physical exercise! Try puzzle toys, hide-and-seek games, new tricks, or just an old-fashioned game of fetch. If your pooch isn't acting like himself, don't hesitate to follow up with our veterinary team. chicopeehillsvet.ca

Having a pet that behaves well is the key to a happy home! Stay consistent with walking or feeding routines and reward good behaviour with praise or treats. If you're noticing persistent behaviour issues, don’t hesitate to visit our vet. We can identify underlying issues or health conditions that could be the source of the problem at home. chicopeehillsvet.ca

Our veterinary team from Chicopee Hills Animal Hospital is always happy to hear about how pet owners engage in daily exercise with their furry companions. Help maintain a healthy weight, boost energy levels, and reduce the likelihood of behavioural issues. If you notice sudden changes in your pet’s behaviour, energy levels, or if they seem unwell despite regular exercise, call to make an appointment. chicopeehillsvet.ca
