After last week’s cold spell, we thought she should share some cold weather safety tips! Here are some safety tips for those harsh winter days that our friends at the KW Humane Society shared!

🐾 If it's too cold for you, it's likely too cold for your pet. Keep cats indoors and have shorter outdoor bathroom breaks and walks for dogs. Put a coat on your dog to keep them warm when outside.
🐾 Put booties on your dog's feet to keep their paws warm and to protect them from ice-melting salt
🐾 Be aware of antifreeze and certain ice melts as they are toxic to pets. Be sure to thoroughly clean up any antifreeze spills.
🐾 Keep your dog on leash. Dogs can lose their scent in the snow and could become lost. More dogs are lost during the winter than any other season, so make sure your dog always wears an ID tag or has a microchip.

Happy New Year! Thank you for another wonderful year of allowing us to care for your fur family. As you celebrate tonight with family or friends, consider keeping the following tips in mind:

🐾 Take your dog for a walk before celebrations start to minimize distractions and help them burn some energy before your event

🐾 Create a quiet space for your pet to retreat to should they feel overwhelmed by the festivities and guests in your home

🐾 Keep collars with ID tags on. With so much going on and the door opening and closing throughout the night, there is a higher chance that your pet could get out. (A breakaway collar for a cat is a good option to minimize the risk of becoming stuck if they do get outside)

🐾 Keep alcohol and toxic treats up high and out of reach of your pets

Please note we are closed tomorrow (January 1st). If your pet experiences an emergency, please call the emergency vet clinic at 59-650-1617

There are all kinds of things to find and eat in the spring and summer months; some of which contain worms! 🪱 Thankfully, your summer heartworm medication is also a great general dewormer. Another good reason to put your pet on a monthly heartworm prevention medication this year. It is recommended to start this medication June 1st and give it monthly until November 1st.
