Mika is the newest member of the CanineTech Rehab pack! Mika has been having lameness on her right front leg. She has a mild sprain of her medial shoulder ligament with tendonitis of her biceps tendon. Mika is nervous about having physio, so we are going to take it slow and of course she gets lots of treats! Her treatment will be focused on mobility and strengthening of her right shoulder, as well as laser to help with the pain and healing. Mika is a very sweet girl and did enjoy all the attention. Her brother, Denver, wanted in on the action as well, but I think he was mostly there for the treats!

CanineTech is branching out and is now treating cats! This beautiful boy is Smoke. Smoke is a senior cat and has arthritis. He has become weak in his hind end and is over using his left shoulder. Smoke's owner is managing his pain but we are going to work on mobility in his back, pelvis, hips and shoulders. Smoke also has some strengthening exercises to work on. Smoke was a great participant and has set the standard high for any other cats that decide to join the CanineTech Rehab pack....or should I say "FelineTech Rehab"!

Rory has now joined her brother, Geller, as a CanineTech Rehab pack member. Rory has stiffness in her neck that is causing her to cry at times. We are working on joint mobility in her neck with manual therapy and range of motion exercises. She also has a lot of muscle tension in that area as well as pain, so she massage and laser are also part of her treatment. Rory and Geller are both very photogenic! They both wanted all the attention and treats at their physio appointment today.

Raisin is a repeat customer with CanineTech Rehab. Raisin has a possible tear of his biceps that is causing pain and lameness. Raisin has had surgery to fix an CCL tear in the past. He developed a habit of shifting his weight more onto his front legs and overusing the muscles in his shoulders. This has led to his current injury. We are going to work on pain management and strengthening in both his hind and front end to help redistribute his weight properly. This will help decrease the stress on his front legs. Raisin is such a happy boy who loves to play and go for pack walks. We want to get Raisin back to enjoying those things in his senior years!

Frida has partial tears of both of her CCLs and early degenerative changes in her knees. She is a very active dog but is limited by her injuries. Her owners wanted to try physio to see if they could avoid surgery but it is likely, due to Frida's age and activity level, that she will require surgery. Working on her pain management, strength, proprioception and weight bearing is going to help her both pre and post-op. Frida is also very fearful so we are taking things slow so she feels more comfortable. She is a very sweet girl and we just want to do the best thing possible to help her!

Solo is the newest member of the CanineTech Rehab team! Solo was turning out his elbow when standing and walking so his owner wanted to get him assessed by physio to see what was causing him to be "bow-legged." Solo as a sprained medial shoulder that is causing increased mobility in the joint. His muscles around his shoulder joint are tight and being overworked. We are going to work on strengthening and joint proprioception to provide more support and stabilization of the shoulder joint. Solo is really active and has always jumped down the last 4 stairs when going down them. He has put extra stain on the joint and caused a slow stretch of the ligament.

Solo's sister Esme wanted to be involved too, or maybe she just wanted the liver treats!

How cute is Izzy?!? Izzy is 6 years old and has been showing signs of weakness in her hind end. Her owners reached out to CanineTech Rehab for acupuncture and strengthening exercises. After Izzy's assessment, we determined her neck was the cause of her weakness and abnormal gait. Izzy since had x-rays that showed some compression of her lower cervical spine. She is going to have a CT scan as well to get a closer look. It is possible that Izzy has Wobblers Syndrome (a neurological condition with spinal cord compression in the neck). Izzy is going to have regular traction of her neck, strengthening and proprioception exercises, as well as laser and acupuncture treatment.

Swipe to the next picture to see Izzy with her brother Oliver. Oliver is paralysed in his hind end due to a herniated disc, but nothing can slow Oliver down!

Graduate Alert!

Mercy was recently discharged from canine rehabilitation and is back to doing all of her favourite things. Her owner originally reached out to CanineTech Rehab because Mercy was favouring her hindlimbs. With a combination of manual therapy techniques, targeted strengthening, spine mobility exercises, and activity modifications, Mercy is now pain-free and moving better than ever!

We will miss you Mercy, but are very happy with your recovery!

How cute is Cassie showing off her toy for me! Cassie is a repeat customer to CanineTech Rehab and was very excited to see me again. Cassie was previously treated for a partial tear of her right CCL and a full tear of her left CCL. She did amazing with her recovery but now has been limping on a front leg. Cassie has arthritis in her left knee as a result of her CCL tear. This is causing her to use her front legs more when doing certain activities such as stairs and getting into a sit position. As a result, she has caused a mild sprain of her shoulder as well as overuse of the muscles. We are going to work on strategies for Cassie to take some strain off of her front legs and prevent further damage to her joints as she ages. Cassie is a very happy girl and we want her to feel as great as possible!

Meet Tess!

She is a lovely Wheaten Terrier and the newest member of the CanineTech Rehab pack.

Tess has been experiencing lameness (limping) of her left front limb due to inflammation of her biceps tendon. She also has some stiffness in her back which is altering how she loads through her front limbs.

We are going to work on building up the strength in her shoulder blade muscles and utilize techniques to improve the mobility in her spine so that she no longer favours her front limb.

Welcome Tess!

This very cute boy is Arlie! Arlie is a Miniature Dachshund. Dachshunds are very prone to having back injuries such as herniated discs and intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). Arlie is 12 and has IVDD. He had pain in his back as well as weakness in his hind leg. With medication and proper care by his owners, Arlie is already feeling much better. With canine rehab, Arlie and his owners now have exercises for strength, proprioception and joint mobility. This will help to prevent future flare ups of his IVDD and will help keep him as fit and healthy as possible as he continues to age. One treatment technique that is always good for Dachshunds is spinal traction. This is part of Arlie's rehab.

Say hi to Lola! Lola was seen by CanineTech Rehab when she was an energetic puppy! She currently has been having lameness on a front leg. Lola has a mild sprain in her shoulder, decreased muscle length in her biceps, as well as stiffness in her neck. After her assessment, Lola was already moving easier in her neck. Her owners are going to work on strengthening and proprioception exercises for her shoulders to help prevent further injuries. Lola was very happy to have lots of attention and lots of treats during her assessment!

This very good boy is Dolce. Dolce has been having on and off problems with his left shoulder since he was a puppy. His owners wanted to see if there was something that can be done to prevent flares and further injury. Dolce has an old sprain in his shoulder with secondary muscle tension and mild increased mobility of the joint. We are going to work on strengthening Dolce's shoulder as well as improving his proprioception and functional mobility. Dolce has a puppy brother and sister he loves to play with. We want to make sure he can continue to have fun for years to come!

This is Rosie! She is a sweet lab mix who has been having lameness on her left hind limb since having surgery in October to repair her CCL (equivalent to the human ACL in the knee).

She now has a strained left hip flexor from compensations developed after the surgery. She has also lost a lot of muscle mass in her left hind limb over time. We will be working on techniques to increase the strength in her left hind leg, improve her balance and control, and decrease the inflammation in her hip flexor tendon.

We can't wait to see Rosie get stronger to be able to enjoy longer walks and play with her canine Greyhound sibling.

Meet Bala and Shelby! They are sibling Golden Retrievers who have recently started canine rehab with Courtney.

Bala is 10 years old and needs strengthening for his hind end and help to improve the mobility in his spine. We will work on techniques to help support him in his senior years.

Shelby is 5 years old and a bundle of energy. She has been having some intermittent lameness on her right front limb. We will be working on building up the strength of her shoulder blade muscles and decreasing the tension in her biceps muscle to help her walk and play more comfortably.

Nikky is the newest member of the CanineTech Rehab pack! Nikky has recently shown signs of slowing down. She gets tired on her walks and she is having trouble jumping in the car and on the couch. Nikky has weakness in her hind legs due to age related changes. She also has some stiffness in her back and pelvis. We are going to work on improving her mobility as well as increasing her strength to keep her active during her senior years. Nikky has a very cute dance she will do when she is excited! Hopefully I can capture it at her next treatment.

This sweet pug is Bruce. Bruce has been progressively losing the use of his hind legs. He is now having trouble with his front legs as well. It is likely that Bruce has degenerative myelopathy but has not been officially diagnosed. Bruce is having acupuncture, laser and manual therapy as part of his rehab. His owner is also working on range of motion exercises and stimulation of his legs to get some movement with his reflexes. We want to keep Bruce as comfortable and happy as we can during the progression of his symptoms. Bruce is still a happy little guy and he slept his way through his treatment!
