We had some technical difficulties… but we’re back with the full video!
Last year we celebrated National Pet Dental Health Month by taking you behind the scenes of one of our oral health procedures. This year, we want to celebrate Spay and Neuter Awareness Month - which also happens to be February - and take you behind the scenes of a neuter surgery here at WVH. A special thanks to Weston, who was a perfect model patient, and his owners for allowing us to share him with the world! Just like our dental video, we hope this video can provide some comfort and insight to anyone considering spaying or neutering their furry friend. There are many medical, behavioural, and ethical reasons we highly recommend spaying and neutering your pets. The next time your pet is in for a visit with the doctor, if they haven’t been fixed yet, please don’t hesitate to ask our team any questions or concerns you may have. We will be happy to answer!
CONTENT DISCLAIMER: Please watch as per your own discretion. Everybody has different levels of medical imagery that they’re comfortable with! This video includes videos of administering injectable medication, a pet under general anesthesia with an endotracheal tube placed, veterinary professionals in surgical attire, surgical instruments, distanced shots of surgery being performed, and some brief glimpses of blood on surgical drapes. There are no graphic images or videos of surgery being performed!

For International Day of Veterinary Medicine, our RVTs and doctors talked about some of the hardest parts of their schooling. Regardless of how hard veterinary medicine can be sometimes, none of us would have changed our path. We all love what we do and are so grateful we get to help pets and their owners every day!

We missed some staff members in person… so read down below to see what they thought was difficult!
⬇️
Dr. Anne: The sheer volume of information was a huge challenge, especially learning the differences between species. Cats are NOT just small dogs!
Dr. Angela: Learning about all the species I knew I would never work with… and taking blood from a bird’s wing.
Dayna, RVT: Having to memorize the spelling of the ridiculously long scientific names of the large animals parasites such as: Macracanthorynchus hirudinaceus or Dicrocoelium dendriticum knowing full well that working with pigs and cattle was never in the cards for me!

Sometimes our in hospital patients need some extra TLC… in Daisy’s case, she requested to be hand fed. 👑 But, only until the “paparazzi” came around and then she of course ate on her own!
