For those who don’t know, this past week was “take your pet to work week” and whether our staff pets wanted to or not… they participated! While some were for fun social visits, others had something “bugging” them and needed care from our team.
Poor little Winnie (first photo) had an allergic reaction to an unknown bug bite! 🐜Thankfully her mom brought her in right away and we got her feeling better ASAP.

Did anybody else get to take their pet to work with them this week? Comment down below! ⬇️ ☺️

Happy Adopt a Shelter Cat Month! 🐾
Meet Dot (full name, Dorothy Anne) 🥹💕.

Dot’s story is mysterious… just like her gaze! Her background is mostly unknown, but her now owner met Dot during school to become an RVT. Her owner adopted her, knowing that black cats often remain in shelters longer than other coloured cats due to their appearance in photographs and the superstitious belief that they are bad luck. Well, we think Dot is wonderfully photogenic AND is certainly not bad luck! She’s provided her family so much love and lots of face kisses!

If you’re thinking of growing your family by adopting a new furry friend, please consider adopting from a shelter or a rescue. For more information on the cat crisis in Canada, you can check out this article posted by Humane Canada:

Happy Veterinary Appreciation Day! 🩺🐾💕

This celebratory day was created in 2015 by Trupanion to recognize the dedication and hard work from all veterinary professionals. Today is a day we express gratitude for ALL of our staff members and give ourselves a little pat on the back. We all truly wouldn’t be here if we didn’t share such love and respect for animals and a calling to help give them the highest quality of life possible! Please enjoy just a few snapshots of some of our staff members enjoying one of the best benefits of the job… snuggles with the pets! 💕

Time for another shelter cat feature! Meet…
🐾 Quincey 🐾

Quincey’s now owner, and her corgi Willa, wanted another kitty after losing her two Siamese cats. But, she was hesitant to bring home a cat if the new addition didn't get along with Willa. Suddenly, the perfect kitten appeared! Her parents regularly foster kittens for the humane society and they were asked if they would take in a single kitten. Enter Quincey! All their cats disappear when Willa visits, but Quincey was completely unbothered by this friendly and playful corgi. Quincey’s owner knew he was going to be a great fit and soon adopted him. Quincey and Willa have been fast friends ever since, sleeping alongside each other and wrestling like maniacs!

June is officially Adopt a Shelter Cat Month! 😻Which means, it’s time to bring some awareness to the cat crisis in Canada AND, of course, feature some more of our amazing staff and client rescue kitties!

Did you know? In the year 2021 alone, over 60,000 cats were admitted to a rescue*. Cat overpopulation continues to challenge many communities across Canada. If you’re thinking about growing your family by adopting a new furry friend, please consider adopting from a shelter. There are so many loving kitties out there who still need homes.
*As per the Canadian Animal Shelter Statistics 2021 Report published by Humane Canada.

First up to be featured are Bubbles and Rosie! You’ve briefly met Bubbles on our page before, but he’s back to share his story, as well as introduce his sister Rosie.

Bubbles was adopted from the Humane Society in 2017 when he was around 10 months old. His owners went back twice to see him before adopting and each time Bubbles would greet them with affection and continuous meowing, or squeaking as they like to call it. They knew he was the one! Bubbles is the most affectionate and patient cat ever. His pawrents will always get a black cat again!

One year later, Rosie was adopted from Grand River Rescue. So named after her rose-coloured nose, you can always count on Rosie for cuddles, a loud meow, and fur fluffy as a bunny! Her and Bubbles’ owners were worried at first to bring a second cat in as they didn’t know how they would get along. While they still do not cuddle, they accept each other. She puts up with Bubbles biting her neck and she returns a swat to his head!

Keep an eye out for more features throughout this month! Happy Adopt a Shelter Cat Month! 😸💕

Surprise! We have a belated entry to yesterday’s “National Rescue Dog Day”! Meet…

Yansen 🐾❤️

Yansen was born in South Korea in 2016 and came to Canada in 2017. Yansen was rescued on the streets in Korea when he was a puppy by Free Korean Dogs, a group who focuses on rescue & rehabilitation for dogs saved from the Korean dog meat trade. Yansen is a sweet & affectionate dog that loves people & hanging out with his sister, Kitty!

We hope you all had a good National Rescue Dog Day AND a great long weekend!

Our last feature of the day is…

Lenny 🐾❤️

Lenny and his sister were found at 12 weeks old being dumped in a pet shop parking lot in Puerto Rico. Thankfully, a lady who rescues dogs was there buying crates for two other rescue dogs she had. She grabbed Lenny and his sister and they were dirty and malnourished. So, she contacted other rescue friends to help and got the pups to the vet and made sure they were all good. She found a rescue in Syracuse that was meant to take them both, but they backed out last minute. Lenny’s now owner saw the post about these puppies through a friend on Facebook and instantly thought Lenny was special.
She and her family talked about it for a few days and realized they needed to help him.
They surprised their 4 year old with Lenny when they dropped him off and the family has been growing together ever since.

A message from Lenny’s family: “It’s been a transition from an all cat household to a cat and dog household, but we love Lenny and have so much love to give him. We are thankful to be able to give him the love and security he deserves.” ❤️

Happy National Rescue Dog Day! 🎉

We hope everybody enjoys the rest of their long weekend, and we will see you again in person tomorrow at 8:00am!

Next up, it’s time for a triple feature! Say hello to…
Rufus, Jersey, and Rosie 🐾❤️

🐾Rufus: Rufus had been abandoned outside a building and the Guelph Humane Society picked him up where his now owner adopted him in 2016. He is her most senior pup; he can be very sweet but has some challenging behaviours which have mellowed with age. He is calm and gentle with his sisters, hates walking, loves to chase chipmunks and squirrels, and loves to eat!

🐾Jersey: Jersey’s now owner met her in 2018 while volunteering for the Canadian Dachshund Rescue. Jersey has a condition called mega esophagus, which is very challenging to manage and therefore made her less appealing for adoption. After fostering her for 6 months and figuring out all the things to keep her healthy, her foster mom became her forever mom! She is sweet, confident, friendly and a barker like her brother. She loves to chase wildlife and also loves to burrow.

🐾Rosie: Rosie was originally recovered from a house with over 100 small dogs in cages. The SPCA and police raided the home, took the animals out and distributed them to various rescues and kennels for rehoming. Two years ago, Rosie’s now owner found her on Petfinder and adopted her from Animal Care Centre-Lobo. Rosie has behavioural issues that stem from anxiety and fears of the world around her. It takes her a long time to trust anyone and is very fixated on her mom as her primary person. She is very sweet and only barks when protecting the home or when she is joining the choir. She loves to eat and is just starting to relax enough to notice things that move (and therefore require chasing) in the yard.

A message from their owner: “After adopting my first dog, Wilfrid, in 2016, I knew I would always have a dog and as it turned out, more than one has become my normal. I’m so fortunate to be in a position in my life that allows me to care for these dogs that bring all kinds of experiences to my life. Cannot imagine life without them.”

Happy National Rescue Dog Day!

Hello everyone! We hope you all are enjoying this beautiful long-weekend. Remember, we are still closed today; however… it’s National Rescue Dog Day! So, we of course still had to celebrate. We’ve got a few paws-itively adorable rescue dogs to share with you today from some of our fabulous clients. First up…

Tessa🐾❤️

Tessa was adopted in 2021 from Niagara Dog Rescue. When her owners were matched with her, they knew right away that they would be a perfect fit for each other. On the day Tessa arrived in Ontario from Texas, she climbed right into the front seat of the car for a hug, and she hasn’t stopped cuddling her family since! Being a rescue dog, Tessa needed not only lots of love, but also time, patience, and training to feel safe and comfortable in her new home; but, she is worth it!! Tessa loves all people (especially her 7-year-old human sister) and greets everyone she meets with a goofy smile, full bum wiggle, and a request for belly rubs. She enjoys her squeaky toys, naps in the sun, and going for jogs, but she is happiest when she is snuggling with her family. She’s such a good girl, and her family is so thankful that they get to love her!

Happy National Rescue Dog Day, Tessa! 🎉

Last, but certainly not least, another double feature…
🐾Bacon (white/orange) and Carmen (tabby)🐾

Bacon was adopted from Real Trooper Cat Rescue in December 2023, shortly after his now owners had said good-bye to their 21 year-old former street cat, Beans 🌈. Bacon loves toys, treats, his older sister Carmen, and most of all, attention! He owns their owners’ hearts and they are thankful every day that he is a part of their family.
Carmen was adopted from Kitchener Humane Services in July 2015. She is the best company and loves sunbeams, naps, and being brushed. She is still learning to love Bacon.
Both of these kitties’ owners want to say how forever grateful they are to the organizations that help animals and that have connected them with their furry family members.

Happy “Adopt a Shelter Pet Day” Bacon and Carmen! ❤️

We hope you all enjoyed this day of celebrating these amazing rescue pets and we inspired you to consider adopting from a shelter the next time you’re looking for a furry family member 🥰.

Ok, time for another kitty for our next feature…
🖤Ruby🖤

Ruby was found and rescued from a hoarding situation as a kitten by the Cambridge Homeless Cat Rescue. She was then adopted by her current owners when she was about one year old. When Ruby’s owners brought her home, she started out very stand-offish and kept to herself. But, her owners were patient and built a trusting relationship with Ruby and now she is the cuddliest, friendliest cat! Even at vet visits and with new people! Shes a true testament to how taking a chance on a shy rescue can pay off wonderfully.

Happy “Adopt a Shelter Pet Day” Ruby! ❤️
