Renfield (Neurered male, DOB: August 14, 2023) ~ 476 days in care!!

Handsome Renfield is the last remaining puppy from our "Spooky" litter and we just can't believe he hasn't been scooped up! He can be timid at times but is always a perfect gentleman. His foster home tells us that he is fully house-trained, crate and leash-trained, plays fetch, knows how to sit, and loves frisbee! Renfield loves other dogs, has lots of fun energy, and loves to run, jump, and pounce. He also loves going to the beach and playing fetch in the water, and would play for hours in the water if he could! If you love to laugh, this dog would be a perfect fit. He is such an amusing goofball.

Vanellope (Spayed Female, est DOB: April 19th, 2024)

You can find sweet Vanelope most times outside in her catio. She loves spending her time in the sunlight and watching birds. She is very good with other cats and kittens, and she is litter-trained. She is a playful girl but she loves to get as many cuddles as she can. If you like to snuggle up in the evenings, she would love to join you!!

Bosley (Neutered male, est DOB: March 19, 2024)

This little boy is from our Charlie's Angels litter and came from a colony of 38! He and the other kittens from the litter had sniffly noses and upset tummies at intake, but with meds, and continuous love and care, they are now healthy and ready for their fur-ever homes. Bosley is a shoulder cat, he just loves to be with you, he LOVES cuddles in bed, and he is good with cats and dogs. He is litter-trained and well-behaved. He is currently in foster and is patiently waiting for his purr-fect family!

February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month!

Spaying and neutering is key to proactively preventing unwanted litters and reducing the # of homeless pets that come into shelters. Fix by six months to significantly reduce the possibility of pregnancy. Did you know that Lac La Biche County and LLBRHS provide 50% rebates to responsible pet owners who live in Lac La Biche County and spay and neuter their pets??
In just four years, over 500 pets within the county have been spayed or neutered already. Here's a pet collage of some of those "snipped" in 2024.

Here's what a few pet owners are saying about the SNIP program:

We know how important it is to keep the pet population down and are grateful that we were able to save some money while doing so! River will live a very well-loved life with no worries about babies! Stephen (Male to be neutered, Est DOB: July 24, 2023)

This guy was found outside during one of our cold spells this winter and a rescuer graciously took him in. He gets along with the cat that he is currently living with and he loves to play. He also joyfully accepts pets. We are still learning about Stephen and will update you as we learn more about him.

Strix (Female to be spayed, est Terrier Mix, est DOB October 18, 2024)

This girl is from the litter of 9 puppies that were brought in to us. They were found in a box in this cold winter weather and rescued. Strix is currently in a foster home with her sister Eglantine and they are truly enjoying it. They love their toys and they LOVE snuggles. Strix is doing well with her potty training and she has been good around other dogs and cats so far. She is a little bit of a more laid-back puppy but she is always up for an adventure with her human. Strix is curious, adventurous, and ready to go to her forever home!

Sharing FYI because this affects all pet owners, as well as shelters!:

Tonight's episode of Marketplace on CBC is about the high cost of vet bills & the corporations (3 of them) buying local vet clinics across Canada. It airs again Sunday at noon if anyone is interested or wants to PVR it. Also tonight's episode of Fifth Estate is about rising costs of pet care. Both episodes are airing a few times over the weekend.

This sweet girl is Bailey. She is very friendly and super lovable. She gets along very well with dogs, cats, and children. Unfortunately, she needs to be rehomed into a family without livestock. Bailey is a lovely dog and has the sweetest smile! We believe she would make a great companion for a family without livestock.

Athena (Female to be spayed, est DOB: October 7, 2024)

Sweet Athena was found roaming around just off of the road. She wasn't doing well when she first came to us, she was slim and very lethargic. Now she is perky, playful, and ready to find a forever home! It's hard to tell in the photo but she has some really beautiful markings. So far, we know that she is good with dogs, she curls up to sleep next to her foster's big dog and it's so cute! She can be aggressive to cats when first introduced but once she knows they're not a threat she warms up and is best friends! Athena likes to sleep in the bed cuddled up with her foster. She would make someone a great companion!
