This young black ameraucana rooster won Best in Breed and Reserve All Other Standard Breeds last Saturday at the Ormstown expo. I am super happy with my first show and thankful for all the amazing people i got to meet.
Ce jeune coq ameraucana noir a gagné meilleur de race et reserve toutes autres races standard samedi dernier à l'expo de Ormstown. Je suis très satisfait de mon premier show et d'avoir recontrer tellement de personnes géniales.

Grow outs: the part of chicken breeding that takes the most time/work/patience and resources is growing out chicks. Even with the best quality parents often the chicks don't turn out as SOP adults, I've had pens that I've kept less than 10% of birds. As they grow some birds show very evident defaults, but most can't be properly judged until their first moult

Motherly Love❤️ One new mama of 6 beautiful healthy ducklings and one mama to be sitting on about half a dozen eggs due in about one month! Muscovies are definitely my favourite ducks! If you can get passed their disconcerting appearance you will find the perfect homesteading waterfowl. Descending from South American wild ducks they truly have it all: they are great are foraging and free ranging, calm and collected they are the most approchable of my ducks, the best dual purpose duck there is; these big heavy ducks are great meat birds but also marvelous layers. Although notoriously difficult to artificially incubate that shouldn't be a problem either as muscovies are very maternal and broody(I've had 4 females for about 2 months now and 2 have gone broody so far). Oh and did I forget to mention.... They don't quack 😏😝! Muscovies make more of a hissing sound than anything else so they are nice and quiet. I highly recommend muscovies for anyone wanting to start out in homesteading or birdkeeping... Maybe even more than chickens🤔🤪
