"As I was looking on Facebook, I saw the ad for this dog. Phobic, brutally abused, eating wood and tied up in a yard. His man wanted him "wild" to scare the thieves!!... After the death of my dog that we were together for 17 years and while I had said I would not get another animal, today he came into my life. As soon as I put him in the car he sat on my son's lap and fell asleep. I took this picture to share and show how much all creatures need love.... How much did he need that hug?! From today on we are family... Let's go home! "

Newborn at home so the dog has to go .
For those who give up their dogs when they have a baby, I'm posting this photo of a family whose 15-year-old Jack Russel Terrier is treated as one of the children (because he was their first child) and who is the protector of his two human brothers and sisters.
Never use the excuse that you had to let your dog go because you have a baby in the family and the doctor advised you blah blah blah and other lame excuses.
Never abandon your pets. They are family 😍

I have a situation that I honestly don’t know what to do & need some advice…

On Monday, a German Shepherd showed up on our porch with no collar. I tried giving him some dog food but he would not eat it. I left him outside thinking he will go home. He slept on the porch & stayed all day Tuesday & that evening, I took a picture of him & sent it to the previous owner of our house (we just moved in 4 weeks ago) & asked her if she knew who’s dog this was. She said it was our neighbors dog. She had his phone number & called him to ask him to come pick up his dog. He showed up a few minutes later & the dog refused to go with him, would not go near his truck at all. The man said “well I guess he has picked you for his family, if you want him, he’s yours”. He proceeded to get in his truck & drove away. We were like, ok, we are not looking for another dog. I called the previous owner back & told her what happened, she said she wasn’t surprised that the dog wouldn’t go with him, he has physically abused the dog & pretty much starved the dog. He is skin & bones. We let him in the house on Tuesday night. We have a 115 lb Golden Retriever & a cat (they are best friends). GS is not neutered & has never had any shots. He is 1 yr 3 mos old. We found out that he was only ever fed table scraps so that is why he wouldn’t eat dog food. We started feeding him home cooked meals, bought some wet dog food & have successfully transitioned him to dry dog food only with an occasional people food treat.
We attempted to put a collar on him a few different times but he freaked out, like bolted from us. I am guessing that he was abused somehow with a collar. In addition, he seems to have had no basic obedience training. Ever since we let him in the house, my cat has been hiding in our laundry room as he is scared to death of the new dog. Last night, the cat became brave & ventured upstairs & the dog saw him & chased him downstairs back into the laundry room up into the rafters. He is terrified of the dog. Quick back story: 2 years ago, we adopted a lab/pitbull mix & the cat was also terrified of that dog. We hired a trainer & worked with the dog for 7 months & we were never able to get the dog to stop chasing the cat. We ended up surrendering the dog because of the cat issue (she was adopted within a week). Other than the cat issue, the dog was awesome!
Back to today: I don’t want to put my cat through complete torment again like what happened with the previous dog with this GS dog. I have reached out to several humane societies & no one has availability. I have contacted one rescue who cannot take him either.
We are at a complete loss as to what to do. Obviously, priority #1 is getting him to wear a collar, although we have no idea how we are going to do this.
Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to help this dog but somehow fix the collar & cat issue? I am thinking that we are not going to be able to keep him but I have no idea how to find him a wonderful home that will be a better fit. Here’s a pic of our dog & GS.
*Edit to add that I submitted this post over 2 weeks ago & it just got approved - so we are still in the same situation, have been trying to build his trust to be able to get a collar on him but no success yet. My cat is still in hiding in the laundry room so GS has now been at our house since 9/26.*
