Meet Harley a current board and train client. He is here to lean manners, impulse control and a solid recall. Today we are staying cool playing in some water.
With our first trial of the season coming March 18th and 19th in Belleville, ON we are puling out the big guns to proof our dogs for group stays. Claire is a wonderful proofer and we are so thankful to have her come out to training sessions. From left to right: Presto, Chili, Ryder and Rush.

Odin and I working on the figure 8 exercise with lots of distractions. Three of his favourite things are in play: 1. A bumper on the chair 2. A ball on the pylon 3. A child at the perfect kissing height. I love watching this boy work! #kawarthalakesontario #obediencetraining #peterboroughon #stoneylake #selwyn #kawarthalakes #lakefieldontario #ontariocaninewellnesscentre #ckcobedience #ckcontario #flatcoatsofcanada #flatcoatedretriver
Let's talk about conversations dog's have.
In the video below you will see an interaction between a 2.5 year old dog (Odin) and a 4 month old pup (Chili). Odin had retrieved a walnut pod from the ground under the tree and Chili decided it looked like a fun thing to play with.
The body language between these two dogs is great to watch as you can see an older dog giving an appropriate warning to a younger pup.
Chili's body language is typical of a young dog testing the waters trying to get a toy away from another dog. Pay close attention to Chili's reaction to when Odin growled at her the first time. She immediately laid down placing her head directly on the ground below the height of Odin's head. This is her indicating that she is not a threat and she only wants to play with his toy. When she approached the pod again Odin growled giving her a second warning. After that Chili rolled on her back away from Odin and continued to present her stomach to show she is no threat and she heard him loud and clear.
Odin's body language is showing you a relaxed but cautious tension in his body as he tells his younger sister Chili to back off with a low growl while covering the pod. He continued to cover the pod with his head claiming it as his own and warned her a second time when she approached. While Chili rolled away Odin acknowledged her as no longer being a threat and continued on with the pod.
During filming I laughed when Chili was rolling which had Odin make eye contact with me before he decided to walk away from the pod.
Please note, the play growls at the end of the video are Fundy and Ryder playing with each other right beside me.
What are your thoughts on the video??🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Door Etiquette
Working on door manners with 7 month old Maggie. When she first came to train with us she would bolt through doors and run. This is Maggie after two lessons of door etiquette. Her impulse control is much better and her patience has come a long way. She is a great pup!
