🌟 Adopt a Senior Pet Month: Jessica’s Heartwarming Journey to Her Forever Home 🌟

Before Adopt a Senior Pet Month comes to an end, we wanted to share this successful adoption story to inspire you to consider opening your heart to a senior pet. This month, Jessica, a senior dog with a tough past, found her forever home with Brooke, who lovingly renamed her Lucy. Their story is one of love, second chances, and pure joy.

When we asked Brooke what inspired her to adopt Lucy, she shared:
"Senior dogs are precious! I believe they deserve the best of all things in their Golden Years, and I wanted to provide that support to a special doggie. I had to meet her after seeing her photos on your website. Once we met, I knew she was the dog for me. She is so happy to be loved after having such a tough life."

Brooke’s dedication to adopting a senior pet was unwavering. She wasn’t hesitant about Lucy’s age—she was looking for a senior dog all along!

Now that Lucy is settling in nicely, she and Brooke are building their routine together. Their days revolve around walks and Lucy’s favorite pastime: napping. Whether it’s the couch, bed, chair, or even the carpet, Lucy has mastered the art of relaxation in every corner of her new home.

Brooke adores Lucy’s dual personalities:
💤 Indoor Lucy: a couch-napping, cuddle-loving, face-licking sweetheart.
🐾 Outdoor Lucy: an energetic adventurer who lights up on walks, matches Brooke’s running pace, and revels in rolling through the grass.

When we asked Brooke what adopting Lucy taught her, she said it reaffirmed her belief in just how wonderful senior pets are. The most rewarding part? "Seeing the love and appreciation in their eyes," Brooke said, a sentiment that melts hearts and speaks volumes.

✨ Happy Tails Update: Bear (formerly Thursday) ✨

Shannon, one of our amazing adopters, shared an update that’s guaranteed to make you smile! 🐾

Bear, from our “Days of the Week” litter, found his forever home in August—and he’s thriving! 🐶💕 From mastering training to splashing in the water, Bear has brought so much joy to Shannon and her family. They’re always off on new adventures, and he’s made friends with everyone he meets (both two- and four-legged!).

At LAWS, we're committed to keeping our shelter pets happy, healthy, and engaged while they wait for their forever homes. Along with enrichment activities like lick mats, puzzle feeders, and interactive toys, we also bring some of our animals to the front office to socialize! 🙌

For animals who are comfortable and enjoy meeting new people, this provides a wonderful opportunity to greet visitors, build confidence, and experience extra love and attention.

These efforts are more than just fun - they help reduce stress, combat boredom, and ensure our pets thrive emotionally and mentally. 🐶🐱

Time for another 💚 A huge, heartfelt thank you to the incredible team Paulmac’s Pets Peterborough and the amazing community members who came together to make such a meaningful impact! 🐾 Your generosity has filled our hearts with love and essentials for the animals here at LAWS.

Thanks to your kindness, we received over 318 cans of food, 9 bags of litter, 18 bags of treats, bowls, scoops, and toys - everything our cats and kittens need to feel safe and cared for 🐱

Meet Daisy, our sweet special needs kitten with a heart as big as her personality! 💖

Daisy is a bright, spunky, and endlessly curious little soul who has thrived in her foster home with the support of her foster parents and a friendly adult cat companion. Her days are filled with playful adventures, lots of toys, and the sweetest chin rubs you’ll ever see.

Due to her unique needs, Daisy has a little circling routine she performs—usually around her food bowls or furniture. It’s just her way of staying active, and it doesn’t stop her from enjoying a full, happy kitten life! She’s a pro at using her litter box (a low edge one is best) and keeps her energy up with plenty of snacks and water.

The Cheesy Fromage- Lakefield and over 30 incredible businesses in Lakefield came together for a pet-friendly trick-or-treat event filled with pumpkin carving, pet photos, raffles, and more - all in support of our shelter's furry residents! 🐶🐱
