I've always had a natural urge to care for pets for as long as I can remember. If I wasn't caring for our family or a friend's pets, I was tending to a stray that needed love and help. My professional animal care journey started in high school at a cat rescue I volunteered for 2 years. This is where I got the first member of my fur family, Tiger, a senior cat that stole my heart! After high school
, I pursued two years of post-secondary education as a Veterinary Technician. I loved my program and profession so much that I decided to stay in school for a third year in the Companion Animal Physical Rehabilitation certificate program. I graduated top of my class in my final year of school and excitedly started my career as a Registered Veterinary Technician. If you have additional questions about my qualifications, schooling, or registration, I'll happily provide references or proof of education if requested. Over the past 6 years since graduating, I've worked as a Registered Veterinary Technician in different Veterinary Hospitals. I've worked with dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, mice, rats, and hedgehogs. I've also volunteered on and off at wildlife rehabilitation centers, where I worked with a wide range of animal wildlife. My daily work life as a full-time RVT consisted of the following;
- Assisting with Veterinary Health Exams
- Monitoring vital signs during surgery
- Surgical recovery monitoring
- Emergency CPR
- X-rays
- Medications administration
- Blood collection
- IV catheter placement
- Nail trims
- General pet care during hospitalization
- Owner education
- Rehabilitation consultation
As a pet mom, I understand the importance of finding someone qualified, capable, trustworthy, and loving to care for your furry family. I have a large fenced-in backyard on the base, many toys, and a shallow dog pool (summer only) for playtime. My dog is a 2-year-old Australian shepherd cross who is friendly with other dogs and would be happy to make friends with your dog for their stay. We have three rescue cats living in our home as well. For everyone's safety and comfort, I will require a pre-boarding/daycare visit for dogs and their owners to ensure everyone gets along well and is happy to be in each other's company before their stay. All outdoor and indoor playtime will be supervised at all times. All dogs must be fully vaccinated and updated on flea and tick prevention for boarding/daycare. This is for the safety of all pets in my care. I've happily accepted my admission offer to the University of Alberta and will start my full-time studies in September 2023. This means my availability and services will change and be updated around that time. Thank you so much for supporting my small and local business!
