The chicks are so happy to see me every time I come to visit them!
Maybe it's because they know they made a mess of their water and want it cleaned out...
I love it when they do their popcorn jumps π₯°
It might be hard to see in the video but when I got home today I looked outside to see SO MANY dragonflies above our garden.
To some, this might not be a big deal but when we got this house 1.5 years ago the yard was immaculate. The lawn and flower gardens were absolutely perfect. Not a weed in sight. But it wasn't sustainable... And I don't have time for that. It was the greenest, prettiest lawn you'd ever seen though!
It made me sad to see how "dead" it actually was after discovering bags of fertilizers and chemicals the previous owner used, and all I wanted to do was attract more insects, specifically dragonflies (and bees!).
I thought we'd have to put in a pond and get a whole area for them to feel comfortable here but somehow just by planting a huge variety of plants within 1 year including vegetables, native plants, fruit and flowers, and allowing the yard to do its thing without us trying to control everything, we now seem to have extremely brown and ugly grass... But also an amazing assortment of insects! Both beneficial and not, and they all live in harmony and keep eachother under control. So far! π
This made me so happy today, and when I looked up what dragonflies can symbolize in life it made even more sense. There are no coincidences.
There were hundreds of bees on our lavender bush this morning! It was amazing β€οΈ π π
The sound is what drew my attention from about 10 ft away!
I've been checking it daily for bees and haven't seen many around. It always worries me when the flowers around our yard don't have their regular, and very needed, visitors. I can only hope the bee population is on the rise... We're doing what we can at least! ππ» π
