This post from OFA is highlighting the recommended health testing for the English Springer Spaniel. We're happy to report that we do all of the required health testing as well as most of the optional health testing, as recommended by the parent club. All our dogs have their CHIC certificate too!

The English Springer Spaniel is a sweet-faced, lovable bird dog of great energy, stamina, and brains. Springers are highly trainable people-pleasers. They are eager to join in any family activity. Long walks, games of chase and fetch, and swimming are favorite pastimes of these rugged spaniels.
Are you interested in this breed? The OFA, working with the English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association, recommends the following basic health screening tests for all breeding stock:
- Hip Dysplasia (OFA or PennHIP)
- Elbow Dysplasia
- ACVO Eye Exam
- crd4/cord1 PRA DNA Test
- DNA Repository (University of Missouri or OFA)
Optional but recommended:
- Fucosidosis
- PFK
- Degenerative Myelopathy
- Autoimmune Thyroiditis
- Cardiac (Basic, congenital, or advanced via a cardiologist)
Dogs meeting these basic health screening requirements are issued Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) numbers. For potential puppy buyers, CHIC certification is a good indicator the breeder responsibly factors good health into their selection criteria.
